The Waldegg was recommended by our hosts at Baeren das Gastehaus and we couldn't have been more pleased. The staff met us in a van at the Bahnof in Teufen and transported us to the restaurant in the snow as our car would not have handled the steep incline on icy roads. We arrived and were seated at what looked like a large, very cozy, farmhouse table. Recommendations from the staff were received and the food was great, served family style, just like grandmother used to do. The place is like a museum, with 3 floors of memorabilia set up like different rooms or buildings and they even had a live nativity outside. What a great experience for our children making memories to last a lifetime.

Well worth the walk from St Gallen on a sunny day, though I agree there are times when the service can be a bit slow. Food well prepared and presented and poular with 3 lots of visitors I've had recently. Goodi dea to keept the chidlren's play area away from main outside seating area.

They have a lot of business at Waldegg and they are rather fixed up, with what looks sort of like a petting zoo---about 6 tiny goats---and a child-size, fixed-location steamshovel or front-end loader on which a child can play and actually dig in gravel using the controls.

But their service is not very good. It comes across as impersonal. People had to wait a very long time to get served; and they were far from full.

It was not only our table. I watched while two other tables near ours waited for ages before any food appeared.

Later, an older waitress appeared---or maybe the owner or manager---and then things sped up a bit. When I ordered salad and my buddy ordered dessert (at the same time), I timed it with a stopwatch. It took 13:38, that is thirteen minutes thirty-eight seconds, from the time the older woman left our table with our order until it arrived.

But also, when I ordered my salad, here is how it went. That older woman came to our table. I asked, in clear High German, which would take longer to arrive, the dessert or the salad. I was not being sarcastic; because of the previous experience, I honestly felt that ordering anything other than a dessert might lead to such a long wait that our plans for the rest of the day might be spoiled. The woman's reply was (in German), ``You want a salad?'' Then when I repeated my question, she said, ``You want a dessert?'' Then when I repeated it the third time, more slowly, she said they take the same amount of time because they come from the same kitchen.

And, as stated, it took over 13 minutes for the dessert to arrive.

Then while we waited, another waitress, one of the younger women, came to our table and said (something like), ``Kalbsschnitzel?'' She was about to put a completely different dish in front of me, a hot meat-and-starch dish.

Thus, they don't keep good track of who ordered what.

They don't seem to understand that each table should have a single waiter/waitress, that is, that there never should be any doubt who is taking care of any party. Especially not in the minds of the guests.
