My husband and I recently stayed three nights at Tuckeroo Cottages, after first going there in November last year. We loved our stay the first time around, and we were not disappointed on the return visit.
The owners, Gail and Mike, are really lovely, but for us, the friendly dogs really make the difference - it is so much fun to go for walks with Caddy and Suzie. They are the best!
There are some lovely walks on site, which is great for a relaxing day. Also, the cottages are very close to a lot of great bush walking, amazing views, wineries, and good river crossings for 4WD day trips. It's amazing that a place with so much beauty has only a fraction of the crowds you get at O'Reilly's and other places around the Scenic Rim.
The cottages are clean and new, and very cosy. Firewood is provided, and breakfast food is provided as well. It is easy to spend a whole day just relaxing in the cottage and enjoying the beautiful view of Mt Barney. We brought all our own food, which we find is better than going in search of a pub or similar.
I would definitely recommend a stay there, and I know we will be back!

We have stayed here several times and have also taken our friends along for a break from the 'City' life. Lovely place to get away from it all and just enjoy the peace & quite. We took a drive one day to explore the area with our friends. We visited the Rathdowney pub for dinner one night for the best rump steak i have ever had. Gail & Mike extend to visitors the typical country hospitality and you have to try the pizza meals that Mike does they are fantastic. Our friends keep saying we have to go back. And you know what we definately will be returning. Thanks Gail & Mike for having such a fantastic place so close to home for us to getaway from it all.

I enjoyed a three night stay here in January with my husband, an escape from the rate race with no phones and no noise! Just the birds, frogs, dogs and each other for company.

There are only two cottages at Tuckeroo and whilst there were people staying in the other cottage we did not see them! Its very private. The owners house is also well away from the cottages and we did not see them either, once they had welcomed us and settled us in. but they are on site and handy if needed.

Susie and Caddie were the company ( dogs) every time we pulled up they would be there to greet us. We walked down to the River one afternoon and Susie led the way.

The cottage has everything and more than you would need, we were very surprised. A continental breakfast was supplied, cereals, bread, orange juice, tea/coffee and milk left in the fridge, a litre not a small jug! Jams and all sorts of condiments available in the room as well. On the property there is a pavilion which is a very large BBQ area with fridge, BBQ’s, and well lit, table and chairs, plenty of places to sit and enjoy your book or a glass of wine or two.

Everything has been thought of for a peaceful and enjoyable stay, the little things certainly make it special, picnic blankets, insect repellent, filtered water, the cooking equipment, cork screw!! coffee plunger and coffee.

Location wise it is nearer to Rathdowney and we enjoyed exploring the area and doing some walks, very close to Mount Barney.

What a wonderful review! Thank you so much for sharing this with us and others. It is nice to know guests pick up on the 'little extras' we add to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. With a location such as ours it would be a pity not to share our secluded couples retreat with its spectacular scenery and forest walks with other people.

Tuckeroo Cottages is an excellent accommodation option for bushwalking in the Mt Barney area. The cottages are set in large, landscaped gardens not far out of Rathdowney with two friendly farm dogs to greet you on arrival. Ample ingredients are provided for a continental breakfast. Plenty of firewood is provided to keep the cottage cosy on cool Winter nights. Be aware that Rathdowney is a very small town and the pub provides very basic meals. Best to BYO cooking supplies and use the outdoor covered cooking area with its pizza oven and barbecue or the stove is ok too.
