We were tired, and having been camping in our van for a couple of weeks, wanted to clean up, take a long hot bath and sleep in a bed with fresh sheets. We checked in about 7pm on a Saturday night and liked it so much decided to stay another night just to enjoy the view, the quietude. The Innkeepers were Extra nice and accommodating! When we are back in NZ we will definitely be staying here again!

Room Tip: We stayed in a couple of rooms and looked in the other rooms and we would definitely Choose any of t...

Two nights for a bit of peace & quiet - they allowed our dog (English Setter) to stay in the room. We took a family room which had a separate bedroom, clean and in good order.
The Awakino Hotel is approx 6Km North and good for beer, food etc. Mokau itself closes early (7.30pm ish) so get in early if you want to dine out. The museum is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Upper floors are called "luxury units" and have a spa bath. We found the family unit perf...

I only stayed for the one night on my way from Wellington to Waitomo. As New Plymouth seemed to be completely booked out for some reason I continued traveling until I came across this little spot. Unfortunately rather late in the day for most things to be open or available.
The caretakers were extremely helpful, very chatty despite the odd hour and gave me some excellent advice on the route to take for the next stage of my trip.
For that alone it was worth the stop here.
I took the luxury unit with the spa - heaps of room, good facilities and a very comfy bed. I did not use the spa due to the late hour but it was tempting. Loved the duck in the spa !
There are lovely views over the water and tours are available in the area which also seems to be very good for fishing.

Room Tip: Ask for the luxury unit.

Comfort, cleanliness, host friendliness and spectacular views distinguish this motel on the beautiful and rugged North Taranaki coast. It might be a slight exaggeration to call them so but do book the luxury units, they and their king sized bed are a treat.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way back to Auckland. Our room was very clean, tidy and cosy. The bed was also very comfy & great views across the river and ti the beach. This motel is in a lovely little town with great fishing, it feels very 'old' NZ - locals down at the pub having a yarn & everyone is very friendly. We would definitely stay again! Laurel was so lovely, genuinely nice Kiwi folk!

My husband and I stayed here last weekend for 2 nights. We just wanted a quiet getaway, somewhere near the sea, and a nice motel.
Mokau motel didn't disappoint, lovely host, really nice motel rooms, we had larger one upstairs with spa bath which was well worth spending a little more for.
Mussel Inn down the driveway does the best whitebait fritters ever! Tip if staying here is to make sure you have your own supplies as their isn't really a well stocked dairy with food, although their is cafe's nearby.
Another great thing with this motel was that they let us take our dog who they were very accommodating with.

Room Tip: Go for spa bath room

We stopped by chance at this hotel and we never regretted. The rooms are nicely decorated (modern style), the features are quite high level in both room and bathroom, which makes it very comfortable and cosy. The area is quite remote and peaceful.
When we awoke, we discovered a wonderful landscape of mountains and sea, as well as a full view of Mount Taranaki, which we were not able to see before as it was hidden by clouds.
When leaving the hotel, a few kilometers further, we discovered a magnificent black sand beach.

Room Tip: Any room would have the same comfort and quietness level so you don't have to worry about avoidi...
