Build on the peak of the highest mountain - Preach Vihear is a relish for travellers. Spread across the roof of the mountain at the Thailand-Cambodia border, this temple has a lot of significance. Surviving the attacks from across the borders and soldiers lined up at this temple to protect from invasion, Preach Vihear is an unforgettable experience. From atop, one gets a view of Thailand and Cambodian land separated by the border. One of the oldest temple to have been built and over a span of 300 years (many different kings contributing during their respective reigns) Preach Vihear is among my top list for Cambodia!

One of the must-see ruins in Cambodia and already became our favorite! Still a lesser known place, Preah Vihear is a UNESCO World Heritage Listed temple built on a mountain at more than 600m above sea level and is located approx 3 hours away from Siem Reap. We took a day tour to Preah Vihear and travelled to Koh Ker on our way back. A little tiring but its all worth it! The best part? You can explore and enjoy in peace. No crowds, no queue, no wait and entrance is FREE! (Except that you will need to pay for the transport to reach the top)

However, not many travel agents are doing this tour due to its location. If you're looking for a day (or two!) tour to this beautiful place, look for San Park! With more than 20 years of experiences, he not only knows off the beaten path attractions, he knows where to bring you for good and affordable local food too! You'll definitely enjoy his services :)

Well... except for the ride up the mountain which is terrifying. But once you're on foot - this is simply the best temple experience in Cambodia. And... empty when compared to Angkor Wat - get there soon before the rest of the world realizes that the Thai-Cambodia border dispute has finished... you won't regret it.

It was a great place to visit. We were happy to visit the temple as it is wonderful on the top of the mountain. The site was amazing and unbelievable. But it is long way to reach from Siem Reap.

I've wanted to go to Preah Vihear for years. I organised to go with Narin (+85512630771/narinviptours@gmail.com) and had a great time. Narin picked me up at 5 am and we travelled through Anlong Veng before going to Preah Vihear and then finished with Koh Ker and Beng Melea. If you're planning on going with a guide to Preah Vihear, I'd definitely recommend Narin. He speaks fluent English and gave an excellent tour of Preah Vihear. Moreover, his prices are very, very affordable.

The temple itself is fantastic with unbelievable views. It still bears scars of conflict from bombs and gunfire. You don't need to buy cigarettes for the soldiers, but I did and it meant they were happy to help me with photos.

Make sure you bring your passport and money for transport up. The motorbike ride is great too.
