“Relaxation and Comfort”
Reviewed November 2, 2006

We stayed for 3 nights during September. The Louise is an excellent base from which to explore the 100 or so wineries in the immediate area. The restaurant, Appellation, is intimate and first class, much the same as the rooms we stayed in, which were well appointed, clean, quiet and overlooked the adjacent vineyards. Without a doubt, one of best choices for accommodation in the Barossa. A great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the valley.

We stayed here for the Barossa under the stars weekend and intend to return as often as we can. My parents live in the Barossa and we have sampled many different styles of accommodation there. Pepper's Hermitage is not only the best accommodation available in the Barossa but I would say the best I have stayed in, in SA. We were there before the renovations (june/july) and stayed in the Hermitage suite.

It is expensive but really worth the money for a special occassion. Our room was magnificent, spacious and beautifully appointed. The bathroom was exquisite. We had breakfast both mornings and dinner one night in the restaurant, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Both the food and service was outstanding. The only draw back was the pool which was outdoor, not heated and a little tired looking. I don't know if this has changed since the renovations but except for summer the Barossa tends to be a little cold for outddoor/un-heated swimming.

Peppers is located a little way out of Tanunda and you will probably require a car or tour sevice to visit local wineries. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning soon.

The previous review gave us a lot of heartache but we pressed ahead and are very glad we did.Things have obviously improved! The Hermitage is set in the middle of a vineyard and is very quiet and peaceful. The rooms are light well equipped and attractive. The staff are young, eager to please and helpful. What really sets this place apart is the chef, Mark Macnamara, who arrived in September 2005; his cooking is wonderful.
All of the Barossa and the Clare valley is easily accessible from the hotel.
If you go do try the Skillogalee restaurant in the Clare- beautiful setting and good food- lunches only and best to book.
I would happily go to this hotel again
