“Gracious Hospitality & Stunning View”
Reviewed September 19, 2009

Casa Bella Rita is an oasis from the bustle of San Jose. Everything is easy to get to, but you feel that you've escaped once you're inside this relaxing inn. Rita & Steve make you feel at home, give you whatever information & suggestions you need, and make your stay so enjoyable you may never want to leave. Breakfasts are great, delicious and made to order, served on the beautiful patio overlooking a lush canyon. I spotted several birds and really enjoyed the emerald hummingbird. The room we had was very comfortable, great bed and pillows (you don't always get that in Costa Rica), plush towels, and beautiful decorations. All in all, a wonderful inn that I recommend highly.

We are a family that travels frequently. We happened upon Bella Rita via trip advisor as we do so many of our hotels. Upon arriving in Costa Rica @2:00 AM Steve picked us up at the airport - which was a blessing. He got us to the hotel, set us up in our room, got all of us water and we where off to bed. The next morning they called our rental car company (while we where sleeping) to let them know our flight was delayed and that we would call once we awoke. Once we where up and about they made us a wonderful breakfast making us feel right at home. Especially having young boys who need to stretch their legs and explore; they encouraged them to look around enjoy themselves. Their hotel first and foremost is clean and orderly. Their customer service is outstanding and the food is excellent. We will stay there again on our next visit to Costa Rica.

Casa Bella Rita is an outstanding place to stay while in the San Jose area. The owner, Rita and Steve promote hospitality at its finest. Rita went out of her way to make sure that our 8 month old daughter had exactly what she needed to make her stay a pleasure for us all.
This B&B is off the tourist path which allows you to experience Costa Rica as it should be experienced. There are several really good local Tico restaurants within a short walk or ride that truly makes the short trip worthwhile.
Our family highly recommends Casa Bella Rita for a short or extended stay while in the San Jose area.

Rita and Steve have a lovely home in a lovely place. The dinner and breakfast prepared by Steve were outstanding (as was Rita's apple pie), the room was very comfortable and the hospitality was genuine. The canyon is beautiful and there are lots of birds to hear and see. If we return to Costa Rica, this will definitely be where we want to stay for at least part of our time there.

Getting there by bus was not quite as simple as we expected, but we got there and thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay. We high recommend Casa Bella Rita.

You should go to Costa Rica just to stay with Rita and Steve at Casa Bella Rita! We flew into San Jose and stayed here for 2 nights. We also stayed on our last night in CR before flying back to Seattle. Rita and Steve made us feel right at home. It was like visiting old friends... yes, it was that comfortable! On our first full day, it was my wife's birthday. We hired Lois as a private driver (he speaks excellent English) and we visited La Paz Waterfall Park and the Doka coffee plantation... it was a great day learning about the country from Lois and seeing the sights. I would highly recommend that you do something similar. That night, Steve prepared a birthday dinner (fresh sea bass with a tropical sauce... YUM!) and Rita's daughter Meredith, and her fiance Rob, joined us for dinner. Meredith baked a surprise birthday cake... what a sweetheart :) Dinner with friends we've known for just 24 hours! Good food, good wine, good company, good conversation... it doesn't get much better.

Rita is involved with animal rescue as is evident by their 2 little lovable dogs. She's up early and at the gym, while Steve is at home preparing your breakfast. Steve was a chef in his past life, and his culinary skills are to die for. Also note that the Costa Rica coffee is excellent (it's difficult o buy in the states because it's too expensive) - so plan on bringing a pound or two home with you.

The location of Casa Bella Rita is great - as you are NOT in San Jose (this is a good thing), but is an outlying "suburb". The area is safe and just a block away is MeMe's - a local, casual restaurant where the CR food is very good. No one speaks English here, so Rita will write down what to order. Just hand the slip of paper to the waiter. You'll need to walk up to the cold beer cooler against the wall and point to the beer you prefer.

We stayed in the Mariposa room - which was by far our favorite. There are a total of 5 rooms available at Casa Bella Rita. At the back of the house, the open patio looks out over a lush canyon. All very private and serene. A great place if you just want to hang out, read, etc. We loved it here and think you will too!

Steve and Rita are extraordinary hosts. Each room is spectacular. I had a massage and facial on the open air deck of the second floor...heavenly! I think the best part of staying here is Steve wisking us from the hectic airport to an absolute beautiful place. Just what I needed after a long day of flights and layovers. Steve is a great cook and cooked a special seafood dish for our stay. Rita is thoughtful and friendly, even packed us a breakfast to go when we were leaving early AM. If you are flying in San Jose, this is THE PLACE!! Beds, showers, and rooms are immaculate.

Casa Bella Rita was just what we needed at the end of our trip...a little piece of home in Costa Rica. Steve & Rita were fantastic hosts and we even got a delicious free dinner for changing rooms one night. The view of the canyon is amazing (as are the sunsets) and the breakfasts really hit the spot. Their dogs Rata and Topo were great hosts as well and just made the place that much more homey. I definitely recommend it! Oh and make sure you ask Rita to set up the rafting trip for you...so much fun!!
