Owner description: We are small tour operator that has been in business for over 12 years. We offer unique one day tours to very secluded locations, like San Gerardo de Dota, La Cangreja National Park and Carara. We are a company that tries to show the visitor the real Costa Rica, and therefore, we only operate three day tours out of San Jose City, the capital of Costa Rica.

My husband and I, along with another couple, used the services of CREN to travel in Costa Rica for 11 days. We liked the idea of planning our own trip to fit our own interests and needs.
We also appreciated not having to deal with any large groups of people. CREN was able to arrange all of our hotels, our daytime tours and all of our travel between points. They were able to plan for us exactly what we wanted. Having the small details taken care of certainly gave us more time to just enjoy the beautiful country. We ended up traveling to Tortuguero, Arenal, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio. We were glad that we went to each place, because each place was so different from the other and each had something special to offer.
I would highly recommend traveling to Costa Rica and using CREN to help plan the trip that you want to take.

Best Costa Rica vacation
My wife and I and another couple traveled with CREN. We must says, we are very pleased with the entire package operated exclusively for us. Our trip included pick up at the airport, where we were pleasantly surprised with an airport staff member greeting us and taking us out through the hustle to our guide, who then transported us to our hotel. The Country Inn Hotel, a lovely hotel in a quiet neighborhood. The next day we left for our journey to Tortuguero National Park. Our trip included all meals, even the boat tours, first one to the town where we visited the turtle museum and the next day, we explored the national park and the jungle canals by boat. On day 4 we were transferred to Arenal Volcano, where we stayed at the Volcano Inn, a cozy smaller hotel with awesome views of the volcano. We did not get to see the volcano but we really enjoyed the thermal springs at Tabacon ( GREAT PLACE ). On day 5 , we went for a river safari tour, paddling through rainforests. We saw crocodiles, howler monkeys and Kinghfishers ( beautiful birds that feed from fish ). Day 6 we had a blast. We were taken first by boat through an artificial lake ( Lago de el Arenal ) and then by jeep to the Monte Verde Cloud Forest National Park. We stayed at the Hotel Claro de la Luna ( Moonshine ? ), a cozy family run hotel. By nighttime, we were taken on a guided night tour which was extremely exciting. The next day, this was day 7, we went for a strenuous but unforgettable hike through the Santa Helena Rainforest Reserve, a protected area. We saw the Paradise Bird, heard the Bell Bird ( a bird that has a funny metallic sound ) and three species of humming birds as well as large black Guans. The afternoon we spent relaxing at the hotel and had a lovely dinner at Pizzeria de Tramonti, a local Italian restaurant. Day 8 we left and went downhill again to the hotel in Manuel Antonio. Manuel Antonio is Paradise. We stayed for 4 days ( our guide left cause we wanted to spend some days relaxing ). In Manuel Antonio we highly suggest to spend as much time as you can in the National park. The beaches within the park are absolutely amazing. There are 5 beaches, two which are the most visited and gorgeous, and if you feel like hiking a bit, there are some secluded beaches farther south. Punta Escondida. We did book some tours, one was the El Chorro Rafting Trip, a very strong rapid section. We are professional rafters but if you are not, the company also offers other more easygoing river sections, like the Rio Naranja, and the Rio Savegre. The last day we had a really fun time sailing along the coast ( snorkeling and dolphin watching is included ). All in all we thought our vacation was very complete, and exactly what we were looking for, a bit of adventure, beach, rainforest, national parks and enough comfort. You can choose from standard hotels or luxury accommodations, and we were also offered transportation by shuttle, rental car or mini van ( we choose private guided mini van). The price was very affordable, and we recommend this type of transportation especially when traveling 4 people like we did or more ( we were told the good deal came from sharing the total transportation cost + we had Ronald a guide that works for CREN during the entire time except for the time in Manuel Antonio ):

Traveled with the company during the last 15 days of April. We toured almost the entire country, visiting Corcovado National Park in the South ( a fantastic 4 days package with a guided tour by boat to Cano Islands and a guided boat tour to La Sirena Ranger Station HIGHLY RECOMMNEDED !!! never seen so many animals in a trip EVER ! After Corcovado we went to Tortuguero National Park, which is similar somehow to Corcovado but has a different type of vegetation, wildlife and it is more like a swampy lowland rainforest area with many natural canals you can explore by boat. Also an incredible place to visit. During our time in Tortuguero, we took an extra trip by canoe or kayak to a smaller canal which boats cannot access. We saw caimans, egrets and river turtles, a sloth, two species of monkeys and what appeared to be a crocodile, although never got close enough to be sure. After two night in Tortuguero we went to Arenal and stayed at a local hotel with view of the volcano, although we never got to see the volcano, but we were told IT WAS THERE amidst the clouds. However, we did enjoy this region a lot too. We booked a canopy tour with Athica which was a lot of fun, plus I really enjoyed horseback riding after the zip lines which as included in our tour. After Arenal we were taken by boat through the lake to the cloud rainforest of Monte Verde. We satyed for two nights. We did the night tour, the bat tour, the Hanging Bridges and the guided trekking trip through the Santa Helena National Park. We got to see the paradise Bird and hear the sound of the Ave Campana. In Monteverde we particularly enjoyed the Hummingbird feeding station, that is a MUST while in Monteverde. After Monteverde we ended up staying 3 nights in Manuel Antonio at hotel California, a mid sized ocean view hotel. WE ENJOYED OUR STAY A LOT. The setting and location gives you lots of privacy. Although not that close to the beach and national park, it did not matter to us since we had a rental car for two days while in Manuel Antonio. We did not get to see Guanacaste Province, but hope we can go there and some other places we could not visit during our next year`s trip. Great service, we enjoy Costa Rica a lot. Thank you.

We met our guide at the airport for the airport transfer to our hotel in Santa Ana. The next day, we had booked an overnight package with CREN called “ Lapas y Quetzales ”, which means Red Macaws and Quetzales ( Paradise Bird ). It was a totally customized trip for me and my husband and two kids. W originally intended to take both tours separately, but we they recommended us to spend a night in San Gerardo, a cozy little mountain community within the borders of Los Quetzales National Park. A guided hike was included as well as all the meals and a night at the Savegre Hotel. The next day, we were taken south to Dominical beach and back along the coast to Carara Natuional Park, which as originally intended for us to visit on day 2. We went for a 4 hour guided birding trip into the jungles of Carara National Park. We saw many many macaws, some even nesting, part of a recovery project. After the hike, we went to the Tarcola River, where we saw many American Crocodiles, turtles and again, more birds. The company offers one day tours on a regular basis, but if requested in advance, one can also book this overnight package, which I belief only they operate. Our guide was great. We were driven around in a white modern Toyota mini van with air conditioning and all comforts. We rated the company with a 10 out fo 10 !

Cren is a local tour company that offers awesome trips on a daily basis. Me and my wife were looking for something different, not the traditional cattle-type tourism trips with one tour guide for 20 + people. Our guide Ronald took us to Carara National Park, near Manuel Antonio. The park is amazing. We saw over 20 crocodiles, three of them extremely large. After, we went for a guided hike into the rainforest and saw the wonderful Scarlet Macaws. The day after, Ronald took us to Tortuguero National Park. We left early in the morning at around 6 and returned at around 6 PM. We explored the canals and lagoons of the park, and went for a hike in the rainforest too. Unfortunately we did not see any sea turtles, but is was off seasons ( July to September are much better for turtle trips ).A short stop at Braulio Carrillo National Park ( endless jungles) was also included. All in all we were pleasantly surprised with the company. The tours were very affordable ( The Carara One Day Trip costs 95 U$ ) and the Tortuguero Trip costs U$ 90 per person. The company has their own vans and guides. Ronald for instance spoke perfect English and had vast knowledge of nature, natural history and else + he is a very fun guy. Overnight trips are also available, although we did not have enough time. One can book the Tortuguero overnight package, Corcovado National Park overnight ( Corcovado is a fabulous destination located in the Osa Peninsula ) but we lacked the time for. Highly recommended company & and a very personalized service. Private customized trips are also available to other destinations.
