We needed a convenient place for a few days in San Jose visiting family in two locations-- Escazu and Brasil. This property was convenient to both, and the airport-- it's right off Rte 27, which will take you everywhere east or west. Grocery store 'next door' (the room has a refrigerator), and plenty of restaurants across the road. The hotel was like most other Alofts (as far as i know from 2-3 that i've seen). Nice little gym. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise for breakfast. Dinner was so-so (the server forgot one of our appetizers, food was nothing special) but fine for one night. Pool was TINY and OK when no one was there but at times filled up with everyone just hanging out sitting there wall to wall. Some issues for me were the inability to open windows (i suppose it's understandable given the potential for volcanic ash blowing up) and the NOISE in our room--not from people but there was a loud humming that just really drove me crazy at night. I have no idea what it was (not the AC, i shut it off to see) and i have no idea whether other rooms have the same issue. We were on the top floor-- perhaps there was equipment on the roof. By the time I realized that there was a noise we were about to go to sleep, so i never pursued it. As for the staff, all were pleasant for the most part, with the exception of the desk person who checked us out. I don't think i've ever been at a hotel where i wasn't asked, 'how was your stay/how was everything'? Not a word from this guy. When he gave us the copy of the total all he said was, 'You're ready'-- not even 'have a good trip' or 'nice to have you here' or even a common courtesy 'buenas dias'.... Odd for hotel staff but especially odd for Costa Rica.

This hotel is much like many other Aloft locations around the world. I stayed both upon arriving to and departing from Costa Rica, given that my flights were at times that did not allow me to transfer elsewhere in the country without an overnight stay in San Jose.

The hotel is a 20 minute drive from the airport, and the flat rate cab fee is $25USD each way. There is a restaurant on-site, and breakfast is included. A 24 hour McDonalds and a bank with an ATM are across the parking lot.

Rooms were standard. My first room upon arrival was much cleaner than my room before my departure flight (stains on the pillow cases, etc). Staff were generally friendly and knowledgeable.

This hotel is in the business district of San Jose about 20 minutes from SJO airport. The hotel looks the same as many other Alofts around the world. The nice thing about this particular property was there was a restaurant on site. Also there was a 24 hour McDonalds right there as well as a mall across the street with over 10 food options. While this hotel isn't very close to many tourist attractions, it was a great value, clean rooms and awesome staff. Highly recommend staying here if you're a big on value.

As first timers to Costa Rica we settled in quite comfortably and with great familiarity for the first night before our week long stay at a rental property in Manuel Antonio along the Pacific coast. Our fight left Buffalo NY at 6am so, like what many Canadians do, they park stay overnight and leave their cars in airport hotel parking lots, and we did this at the... Aloft in Buffalo. So our modular designed room was a carbon copy of the other. Clean lines, soothing patterns, relaxing chill ambience. We ate lunch in the airy restaurant. Later a few of us went out in search of food and came across a plaza up the road with several eateries...we ate Japanese. The place is surrounded by chain restaurants like McDonalds, Applebees, KFC etc. Great for a launch night into the jungle.

The hotel looks new and clean. the only thing is, maintenance could be improved, the door look behind the door was loosen, feeling insecure. I love their breakfast, always served with fresh fruits and juice.
