Three of us shared a room at Hotel Luisiana and found it to be the perfect size for three friends on a trip. It was probably the best room that we had while in Costa Rica. Everything in the hotel was new and it all worked perfect. It was nice to have a little kitchen in the room. There is a grocery store not far from the hotel (we usually stopped on the way back from trips in our taxi). If you don't have a rental car (like us) you will probably have them call you a taxi each time you got out. They are happy to do that for you. They do provide a driver that works for the hotel but we found the rates very high. Breakfast is a very nice meal in the morning but we can't say that we were too excited about the one dinner we ate there. We had a fabulous meal at a Peruvian restaurant (Inka Grill?) that was a short taxi ride from Hotel Luisiana. Make sure that you know how to get back to the hotel- most taxi cab drivers are clueless even if you explain in fluent Spanish. Best bet is to choose a landmark close to the hotel and get the address and use that for the taxi. I would stay here again if I visited the area. It was a great place to start our vacation.

We stayed in this hotel on the first night of our honeymoon before heading to Mal Pais and then to Arenal.

Once we arrived at the hotel, the reception was very friendly. We were shown to our room, which was very clean and had a nice bathroom and nice furniture. Reception was helpful in calling a taxi for us and directing us to a nice shopping area in San Jose to do some shopping and to see the city a little. We came back to the hotel and had a comfortable night's sleep.

We had arranged for the hotel to drive us to the domestic airport the following day. Ivan was actually our driver that day. He was on time and got us to the airport early. He was very friendly and talked about the city and answered any questions that we had on the short ride to the airport. This helped ease some of our nerves of being in a foreign country and in a city (San Jose) that can be somewhat intimidating the first time you are there.

The only area that I would suggest for improvement is that the seal on the bottom of our door to the hotel room was not quite right and a few tiny moth-type bugs had gotten into the room. This is probably not that unexpected in a tropical country and was no worse than if you left the screen door open at home for a couple minutes.

If you are not an experienced traveller and it is your first time in San Jose, like we were, you might be a bit nervous about the fences and gates around all the properties. We were told that this is because the property laws and policing are not designed to protect property in the way someone from Canada and the U.S. would be used to. So, property owners are expected to protect their property themselves. Also, the street that the hotel is on made us a little nervous but the taxi or hotel driver will take you right into the hotel gate so you never really have to worry.

Santa Ana is a little further away from some things but for us it worked out better to be in a quieter area and to save the cost of staying downtown.

My husband and I stayed in a room on the 2nd floor and our friend, who traveled from Colorado with us, stayed on the 3rd floor and both rooms were wonderful. We very much enjoyed the table and chairs outside our room where the 3 of us sat to enjoy breakfast and social time outside rather than having to sit in our rooms. Arturo was a wonderful host and provided us with all the information we needed to get around Santa Ana. The location is not on the main road, but for us walkers, it was great to get the exercise. We have already recommended your hotel to 2 couples who plan to visit Costa Rica. Thank you and we will return the next time we visit.

I originally stayed at the Hotel because of the proximity to the airport, but I found the service to be excellent. It is a little bit hidden but all the streets in costa rica were troublesome. The hotel itself was very clean with a very nice bathroom, a secure parking lot and a great staff that really helped us find our way around. The neighborhood was a little iffy but the security was great. I recomend this hotel as I felt this was the nicest hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica.
