Tokashiki Guesthouse
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Tokashiki guesthouse is a beautiful accommodation in the middle of the forest. Tetsuji Yamamoto is a very gentleman and very kind. Tokashiki is a magnific little island in the Pacific Ocean and the Guest House is one of the best solutions to go there.

I go to Okinawa every year together with some of my students from Sweden and for training in karate, kobudo and iaido. Because of training every day on the mornings and on the evenings you need some rest and the Tokashiki Island and Guesthouse is a perfekt place for relaxing and have some fun. The laguns are amazing with very clear and beautiful wather and the Guesthouse is a perfect place to stay for a group of people like us. The owner was very helpful and get us all the service and information we needed for a succesful and enjoyable visit. We liked this place a lot and will come back every summer with new students from Kaizenkai Bujutsu Academy, in Åkersberga Sweden (Stockholm area)!

I went to Tokashiki island with my family three times in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
As mentioned the title, we could enjoy amazing beach life ( especially Ahare beach is extreamlly beautiful ) and have great support from cotage's staff ( We had tremendous support for evrything from Mr.Yamamoto, who is the manager of Tokashiki Gusthouse ).
I promised you could spent very good paradise life in Tokashiki Island and Tokashiki Gusthouse as well.

Room Tip: There are two cotage, which are same.

We were 2 women, living in Shanghai, well-travelled around Asia, Europe and North America; this was our first time in Japan. After arriving in Naha, my friend remembered that we hadn't yet confirmed our ferry arrival time with Tetsuji. After checking her email, she found Tetsuji had already emailed her to check on us. From the moment we arrived at Tokashiki Port, Tetsuji was a key factor in making our stay on the island relaxing and carefree. He was our personal chauffer, travel agent and host. Everyone on the island seemed to know him and he was very calm, courteous, prompt and responsive in all of our interactions. We wanted to go to Zamami after 2 nights in Tokashiki and Tetsuji generously helped to arrange a charter boat and also booked our accommodation for the night of our arrival. (In retrospect, I would have stayed longer at Tokashiki!) I personally thought the cost of living at the guesthouse was high, but with all of the kindness and generosity from Tetsuji, this helped to justify the cost. The lodging itself is quaint, private and unique, with a lofted sleeping space, air-con and a kitchenette. I would definitely return with a group of friends and rent both of the lodges and have a dinner party barbecue lasting into the night without fear of bothering any other guests.

Tokashiki Guesthouse is a pair of nice secluded log cabins about a 15-20 minute walk from Aharen Beach. One cabin was comfortable for two couples if you do not mind sharing a tatami floor loft (we opted to not use the bunk beds). Tetsuji (TJ) was incredibly prompt and accommodating as far as making travel arrangements and providing transportation around the island. The beaches and snorkeling in the area are truly amazing, and there were very few people on the island.
I only have a few comments/recommendations:
Bring bug spray for the evening and morning hours if you plan to be on the deck.
Towels were not provided but TJ did manage to find some upon request.
The appliances could benefit from an update, and an ipod stereo or something similar would be nice. There is no TV or wifi. Asking TJ to turn on the AC a couple hours before your arrival would be a good idea.
Upon our arrival we were told the BBQ and snorkeling gear were broken, so ask ahead if you plan on using those things.
Overall though a wonderful stay. Keep up the good work TJ!

I stayed with my family here on the island, and I could not have had a better time. The houses had everything we could ask for, and if there was something missing, the family running the houses would have gone out of their way to get it. The houses themselves are a short drive from the beaches, but also included a great playground (with giant slide) for my son to play on. We also did not have to worry about a car because again the staff was there to take us wherever we needed or wanted to go. The ocean around Tokashiki is just breathtaking, especially if you are into diving, but even if you aren't it's a great place to snorkel and relax. I will definitely be making my way back to these log houses in the future. Thanks again to the staff!!
