Naoshima's Art House Projects are part of a larger art and architecture experience that will occupy the better part of two or three days at least on the Inland Sea of Japan. Three of the six are among the best things I've experienced, but i won't say which three. Choose for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

The overall concept of the Art House Project was intriguing. However, I was unimpressed with execution. Maybe I just didn't "get" this art. It was a bit of a maze to find all the places which I thought was fun (similar to a scavenger hunt) but I found most of the places, I left thinking "ehh".

Liked the old Dentists office and the room with numbers flashing around. The dark rooms were neat as well.

Fun to walk around and find these unique art installations. They are clever, interesting and worth a look.

After creating the wonderful art museums of Naoshima island, featuring world-renowned architecture and art installations, the folks behind the emerging "archipelago of arts" on the many islands of Seto Inland Sea got another fabulous ideas: convert selected houses or shrines in the village into art spaces.

When we visited, the Art House Project had about 7 spaces - all interwoven seamlessly into the cute alleyways of Naoshima. But once you enter these art spaces, very often you are likely to have thrilling "wow" experiences, as you see art ranging from fantastic electronic art to zany sculptures to zen-like settings.

This idea is contagious - and this is one contagion that should spread: on Naoshima, on other islands on Seto Inland Sea, and indeed the world. A spreading contagion of art and beauty would make our world and lives so much richer...
