We were there in December when most stuff were closed, but this wasnt- the building and setting are so beautiful.
Do plan your time- the public transportation is VERY infrequent and there is ONE taxi on the island (also highly expensive).
Also note, only a few people can enter at a time so you may have to wait a while to enter, consider that when considering the time on the island

I visited Teshima Art Museum expecting to come across a typical gallery with multiple art works, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I experienced. Teshima is not a museum, but more like a well executed building sized art installation. It's an excellent collaboration piece between artist and architect.

What you will see in images of this incredible project will only give you half a sense of what the experience is about. The space is meditative and thought provoking.

I travel around the world a lot, visit many art galleries and have seen a lot of amazing art work over the years. Teshima Art Gallery sticks in my mind as one of the artworks that has made a huge impression on me. Definitely worth the trip to Teshima.

Teshima has two places that must be visited: the Teshima Art Museum and "Les Archives du Coeur". Both are specific art works and not museums and both are excellent.
Teshima Art Museum is an incredible architectural / site specific work of the japanese artist Rei Naito: it is an incredibile experience to visit it, difficult to explain it must be feel in the place. I consists in a very big building which curves all over, with open spaces and with small holes in its floor, where small drops of water come out. This water drops "move" around smoothly, split, go together etc. everything in a kind zen atmosphere which is at the same time touching and exciting.
The other work is from the conceptual artis Charles Boltanski "Les archives du Coeur". Also mut be lived and feel. It's a collection of heart beats (you cal record you own beat) and a place where you can "listen and see" the heart sound of many people. Extraordinary and touching in the very deep of your soul. One of the most deep experiences in Contemporary Art worldwide.

After visiting the Chichu art museum on Naoshima you wouldn't expect to get more emotional on a place.
But the Teshima Art Museum takes it even further.
Getting there is already a preparation for the experience, when you reach the remote island and after climbing the steep road you are carried to a whole new place of pure spacial and esthetical pleasure that is just peace and meditation.
Visiting it when it rains adds to it even more.
You feel privileged to have visited this jewel lost in the middle of nowhere and I would be ready to travel thousand of miles again just for that.
