This is a fantastic location which contains both a sacred shrine and a scenic waterfall. It is also connects onto the famous Daimon zaka, a short, historic tree-lined path.

We visited during a weekday and were honored to see the first snow of the season. The area was quiet and we were able to get beautiful shots without any extra payments as may have been suggested in other sites or reviews.

i think this place is the most beautiful shrine in the Kumano area. although there area lot of stairs to reach this shrine but the view is rewarding. To get good picture with Pagoda and the waterfall backdrop , from Nachi Taisha shrine gate you must turn right, walk to the parking lot then go down stairs.

Do you know "Kumano-Sanzan"?
There are three big shrines which are having an ancient and honorable origin around there.
This shrine is one of them.

If you go there by car, you can get there easily. You can avoid the long terrible stairs to reach the shrine.
There is a private road behind the shrine, so you should pay 800 Yen to go up the road.
If you go there by bus, you can get the bus at the Katsuura Station.

The view is so beautiful and awesome.
You can see mountains, the three storey pagoda, and a big waterfall from the deck.

It's definitely the most beautiful of the Kumano shrines, in terms of the buildings but also the surrounding natural scenery
