“Very nice cave onsen”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Special and nice cave onsen with ocean view - enjoying it alreay provides you a good reason of stay here. The hotel is a bit old, and so big with lots of local travellers. The rooms are spacious which is not easy to find in Japan. The overall quality may be not up to modern standard, but again, experiencing the special cave onsen is something you cannot miss for a trip to Nachi.

The stay at this Hotel is recommended for the ocean view from our spacious room and the cave onsen we went. And the spectacular sunrise we watched from our room is a plus!
But all other things we experienced such as check-in service, food ( both buffet dinner and buffet breakfast we had) were below standard of our whole 6 nights stay of walking the Kumano Kodo.

Room Tip: Book to stay at Nisshokan for the view!

We had a such a nice time at this hotel we extended an extra day. The cave onsen were so unique and relaxing. To sit in a hot spring pool while looking out to the ocean was the best experience. The food s was very good, but you have to enjoy authentic Japanese food. We were the only westerners at the hotel during our stay, and had absolutely no problems and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The only thing we had a little difficult time with were the more traditional firm; beds and buckwheat pillows. Although, we still slept soundly.

Stayed one night in November 2012. We took a 10-minute ferry from the mainland to reach this hotel - no hassle at all. The ferry is probably owned by the hotel. This hotel is huge, over 1,000 rooms and lots of shopping on the lobby floor. The outstanding feature of this hotel is definitely the spas (hot spring or onsen). Altogether there are 6 hot springs. The most memorable one is a cavernous onsen overlooking the sea. There is also an open-air onsen on the 33rd floor. There was a lot of walking (all indoor) between the hot springs. Most people were dressed in yakatas and sandals.

The room was quite large, with separate rooms for the bath and toilet. There were no beds as the room had tatami matting. However, the room was transformed into a sleeping room with futons and thick blankets on the floor. Heating was efficient.

Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style. Good Japanese and western food.

It is a large size hotel in an island, we stay in a room with full view facing the pacific ocean. The food there is so-so but my hot spring experience in sea caves is unforgetable!

This is a really Japanese place and not for everyone but for a very short stay (max 2 nights) it can be really fun. Part of enjoying this place is the wonderful coastal train ride from Osaka (or Nagoya). We came from Osaka, spent 2 nights and then went on to Nagoya. The food is only so-so here, and it is packed with retired Japanese couples, and you will feel really out of place, but the cave pools are a once in a life time experience, and the view from the lookout on the top of the hotel is incredible. We went to the baths at 10am which seemed to be an unpopular time because we had the cave pool all to ourselves! Dont come on a weekend - I think it gets really packed.
