We came here every night when we stayed at the (also amazing and great value!) Yougendo Guest House for three nights. Ran by an English guy called Chris, we had many fun conversations in English and loved that he could switch to Japanese with all his other customers.
The food was second to none, on the first night we enjoyed a Saki tasting, which was fun, not fussy, and were presented by a selection of cheeses and home-cured meats and home-made pickles, which were a mixture of english and japanese, which made such a lovely change from the traditional japanese we had been eating for the rest of our holiday.
The second night we told Chris we had had a long, busy day travelling to Naoshima, and said would we like him to fix us up a pizza (YES PLEASE!), of which we gave him free reign. He made us the best pizza I have ever tasted, which includes many from to Rome, Florence, Naples, and Venice. It was delicious, fresh and so comforting.
The drinks are wonderful, you can get japanese drinks, english drinks and also a fantastic selection of whiskeys from Ireland, Scotland and elsewhere. Even the bar-snacks are fabulous.
When we visited the third night there was a complete power cut, submerged in darkness the atmosphere only livened more, we lit some candles and continued drinking, laughing and eating.
