The Toyota Automobile Museum is a great addition to a day trip to the Toyota Kaikan. If you are travelling from central Nagoya, you will pass it on the Linimo maglev line on the way there or on the return journey. It is certainly possible to do the 2 museums in one day, and excellent directions are available from the Toyota Kaikan front desk.
Unfortunately when we visited there was one floor off limits as they were changing exhibitions, but the entrance fee was reduced accordingly, making it very affordable for a small family. In addition to the extensive car collection (both Japanese and overseas models ) there was a section dedicated to the history of the car industry in Japan, and how the technology has changed as Japanese society has changed.
