We were recommended to this ryokan by a friend who has been to many onsen ryokans around Japan but keeps coming back to this one. We stopped by for 1 night on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto - the Superview Odoriko train was very convenient and the ryokan is only a few minutes walk from Izu-Atagawa Station. We weren't sure if we had the correct ryokan - until we saw our name on the door! The staff were super polite, welcoming and attentive, and while their English was limited, we got by with Google translate and lots of gesturing.
The rooms were clean, with a small outdoor bathtub with non-stop hot spring water - great for a midnight soak! The dinner and breakfast were outstanding - live abalone which we each cooked in a little stone pot, sashimi (including lobster!), and much much more! There were 2 private hotsprings that you could book as a private hotspring for a set amount of time (the outdoor one was beautiful!)
We wouldn't hesitate to come back! For the price we paid it was actually an absolute bargain considering the quality of the rooms, hot springs, food and service!

Welcome was enthusiastic in to a hotel with tatami mats on most floors allowing us to walk barefoot comfortably between baths and rooms. The rooms were furnished tastefully and in a classic Japanese style, they felt warm and offered a choice of beds or futon, we chose futon which was a different but welcome experience.
The baths were quaint but could have been hotter in some however you can stay in them longer and chat like we did or bring young people in which helps confidence as well as the quiet of only a 10 room hotel.
The food was above excellent, dinner and breakfast in the rooms was fresh and more than we could eat - one of our family said it was the best in 40 years of Onsen.
When we left all of the staff sent us off, it was a warm and friendly exit and we would consider staying there again. When they heard we came all the way from London they even gave us a gift to take back. They were very genuine.

Room tip: Get one with a bath in the room, it's pretty and big enough for two.

We stayed at Gyokusuikan this July, and had a very pleasant experience there. The hotel is conveniently located near the Izu-Atagawa station, and convenience stores are within walking distance. The hotel offers us a really authentic Japanese ryokan experience, with its extremely personal and warm service from friendly and helpful staff, and a great room with private hot spring tub. The hotel is small with no more than a couple rooms, so you almost feel that you are the only guest in the hotel. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and both are perfect. The only downside is that most of the staff here don't really speak English, so it is a little difficult for us to communicate with them. Also, the wi-fi in this hotel is barely usable. We had a great experience overall, and I won't hesitate to come back if I visit Ito again.

I stayed this hotel with my family at standard room. This room is equipped with a kind of outdoor bath with hot springs which is good for those don't like use big public bath. And they serve really fresh seafood and tastes so delicious. Only one negative thing is that room is really cold even we keep AC on when we sleep. We should've asked for additional blanket!!
