We joined a half day water rafting tour in Asahikawa. All equipment provided, including water shoes. The tour was a small group of 8 and we were led by Ganesh. He was fluent in both English and Japanese and did a great job giving instructions and explaining the procedures to everyone. There were a few kids in this tour and he made sure to keep and eye out for them. Although the water level was low since its near the end of summer, with not many rapids, Ganesh made an effort to make it more interesting. We got to swim in the water, jump off the raft, etc. Photos were taken and were of pretty good quality. We paid 3000yen to have the pictures delivered in a CD to us. It came in less than 10 days. All 3 instructors were friendly and we felt safe. Will definitely join their tour again when the water levels are higher!

Skiing with Sammy and Pat at Asahidake, Hokkaido 2 weeks ago was an absolutely incredible experience. A group of 11 of us spent a week skiing in Hokkaido with Powder Hounds / Japan Ski Tours with our excellent host Soren Rasmussen, and 7 of us went to Asahidake on our penultimate day of the trip.

Sammy and Pat guided our group through the powder fields and trees on Asahidake. We had incredible sunshine coupled with thigh deep fresh powder, and the scenics of skiing on an active volcano were unbeatable. Sammy and Pat were not only professional, friendly, and safe, but they even found us completely fresh lines and took photographs of our group, which they have since sent on to us after the trip.
The level of our groups' skiing is experienced, but Sammy and Pat's knowledge of the area made sure that we got the best lines and explored areas we would have never found on our own.

Sammy and Pat had a great rapport with our group, and made the day super enjoyable - we all enjoyed a good round of Asahidake beers together at the end of the day. Could not recommend Sammy and Pat enough - they're an excellent team, and we had a great day's guiding.

Thanks so much from Sarah, Dan, Ed, Scotty, Ed C-B, Peter, and Torben (London, UK)

My partner and I cannot express enough how terrific our day with Pat and Sam truly was. Before we even met, dealing with Pat was very easy, and from the get-go the whole process was effortless. We arranged a pick up from our hotel and had an enjoyable ride to Asahidake. Once at the mountain, Pat eased any apprehension I was feeling, and quickly turned what could have been a a frightening day for me into one of my favourite ski days. His gentle coaching and laid back approach were greatly appreciated. Exploring the vast terrain in, at times white out conditions, was nerve wracking but Pat not only put me at ease but allowed me to appreciate the beauty of the terrain and the excellent snow that day.

My partner was able to ski with Sam's group who were a little more advanced, and I know he really appreciated that opportunity. By the afternoon we all skied together doing a few 'easy' boot packs (Sam carried my skis!) in order to access some beautiful untracked snow.

By the end of the day our face were sore from all the smiles, and thoughts of our next visit were already brewing. Pat and Sam drove us back to our hotel and unloaded all our gear.

We cannot thank nor recommend Pat enough. It was an unforgettable day we hope to recreate soon.

Hi Emily
Thank you for coming skiing with Sam and myself . It was a fantastic day and it was a pleasure for me to get you confident and skiing right up to your abilities. Its always a pleasure to be with great people and really enjoy the great places nature lets us see. Hope to see you both again and hope you both had a safe trip home and are enjoying some more great turns in the snow there.
Cheers Pat

Pat and his assistant Sam, provided us with a wonderful day skiing for our family of 4 at Asahidake.
They warned us it it had been a bit variable up there but we lucked out with at least 20cm fresh snow the previous night which amounted to much more in the trees and locations Pat took us to.  We would have had no chance finding these great powder stashes without Pats knowledge of the area due to poor visibility up top and the difficulty of finding exit routes across the lower flat sections.
My wife was most appreciative of Sams encouragement through some of the more challenging sections and recovering lost skis.
Every run was a powder run,  often knee deep,  amazing.
Also the information provided by Pat regarding Japan and the features on the way to and from Asahidake was all very interesting.
Thanks again for a great day out that we shall all remember for years to come.

We have just returned from a week of guided powder skiing in central Hokkaido led by Pat, the owner of HOA Hokkaido Outdoor Adventures. Although snow conditions were not as good as hoped for, Pat showed us a great time visiting a variety of locations to enjoy his "private" stashes of powder, including a fantastic short ski tour leading to fresh tracks and an awesome onsen (hot bath). Pat could not do enough for us, and I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to enjoy back country skiing in Hokkaido.
