Was a bit apprehensive as we approached the hotel from the outside, but was pleasantly surprised at the hospitality we experienced, from the checkin reception to the restaurant staff. We requested a quiet room, so we got a room on the 2nd floor. It means you've to carry your luggage up the stairs, but we preferred it that way. It's traditionally Japanese, and you've to change to slippers as you enter the inn. Was fun sleeping on the floor, and though it was cold, the bed and blankets kept you really snug and warm. Dinner was certainly exceptional.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in a spacious Japanese-style room with a private bathroom. The room itself was large and comfortable, looking out onto the nearby forest, with fridge, kettle, tv, tea set - all the essentials. The hotel is just out of town (15min walk) so it’s very peaceful while easy to reach shops and restaurants. It has a bit of a motel-like exterior but the inside is well-kept and clean. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful; we were given lots of useful info on the surrounding area and more. The simple but spacious segregated onsen baths have large windows looking out onto the forest. We had a room-only booking but had dinner one night, which was incredible - a huge platter of seafood including a whole crab, sashimi, octopus soup, venison and a lot more - all sourced from Utoro itself. All in all excellent value and a great place to stay!

Car park right in front of check-in lobby, a young man, who help us to check-in can speak English. Our room arranged in connected new building. Room with private bath & toilet was looks new, clean & spacious! Small snack Shiretoko biscuit & green tea bag was provided. The futon bed was comfortable, wifi was ok!

We check-in about 7.30pm, the futon bed had not been set-up, after a while then only the staff came in & set up which a bit mess as we need our rest time after a long day sightseeing.

The Onsen facilities was good! We enjoy the Onsen but the temperature of the Onsen bath was the hottest of our 3 weeks spring trip in Hokkaido, I mean just a bit too hot!

The ceiling lamp was not working & they came immediate to repair it but inside the cover of the lamp has some die inserts & dust. The next day morning, I saw the cleaner take out the ceiling lamp of all the others room & clean it. They do something after they aware the problem.

Just the price a little high side compare to others Onsen that we stay, it will be perfect if the price included breakfast ;) We will consider this Ryokan if we back to Shiretoko!

Thanks for the vote if you found this helpful :D

This hotel offers Japanese style rooms with heater which is a necessity during winter. As we didn't call the hotel before we go there, we ended up walking all the way up from Utoro Bus terminal which made us sweat even in winter. The place is quite a walk from 7- eleven and restaurants so coming here during winter is a bit of a challenge. I bet staying here during Sakura or summer would be better as it is surrounded by nature.

Staff were all fabulous. Didn't know that Japanese are superb when it comes to service. Hope sone of them can work in our hotel. They're always smiling and greets us whenever they see us, wish us to have a good day which sounds sincere unlike service personnel in other places which sounds like a recorded tape. We needed to cut our stay so we thought we need to pay around ¥30000 to do it but when we approached the reception desk, they called booking.com and proceed with the changes without ang charge. They also helped us book our Five Goko Tours and and Drift Ice Walking tour even if staff talks in limited English. I would love to come back and see more during Sakura.

We stayed at Japanese style room and it's really spacious for only a couple. Since you got into the reception, the staffs showed 100% enthusiasm all the way through your check-out.

Dinner is incredible. Remember to have that hariy crab first! It's so well cooked just to show sweetness and fresh. We wanted to save the best to the last, but somehow got too full by others (sashimi, soup pot, grilled fish, deer meat…), just almost can't enjoy the crab, what a pity!!

Public onsen is comfortable, not too small. There are two private onsens, one is Juniper and the other is Stone. We used the Juniper, suitable for a couple. The elegant smell of junipers are all over the bathroom. What a relief.

Big tourist groups stay here too, but didn't get too crowded or noisy, due to hotel's good arrangement and services. Within the room, the cleaness and quietness make you feel like home.

Highly recommended. Private juniper onsen ¥1080/40 mins.
