Fantastic value for money. Great location, comfortable modern rooms, beautiful views. Breakfast delicious and only 700 yen! Thoroughly recommend. Great pizza, deserts and available to be delivered to your room! :)

All the reviews are correct about how much of a bargain this place is relative to other options around Shiretoko. We stayed here over four days in the Utoro Shiretoko area and loved our experience. Our ocean view room on the third floor was spacious with a marvelous view of the ocean and Utoro. The hotel is right on the water so we could open our window and listen to the waves gently crashing against the rocks.

Staff is super friendly and all speak a good amount of English. We happened to stay while a typhoon blew through and they were proactive in recommending all the indoor places we could potentially head to nearby for that day.

Breakfast was very nice. A simple and delicious offering of traditional Japanese items (grilled fish, salad, egg dish, noodles/rice and fruit plus coffee/tea/milk) that we loved waking up to each morning.

Potential downsides to consider are:
1. Hotel is on the outskirts of Utoro. If you're arriving by bus you'll have a 10-15 minute walk from the station, though the staff will offer to pickup/dropoff. We had a car so it wasn't an issue and parking is plentiful.
2. Bathroom situation was a little cramped as it was on a step height different from our living space and the genkan (entry), which made moving around a bit perilous in the dark. We adjusted to it within a day or two but it's a potential danger spot.
3. No onsen on-site, however you can get a day pass to many in the area for no more than $1k yen, which is a huge savings compared staying at some of those fancier resorts.

We definitely plan to stay here again next time we visit the Shiretoko area!

Room Tip: Third floor has the best ocean view as first floor can be obstructed by the deck

The room that we had was surprisingly spacious with comfy futon beds. The ocean view from our room was fantastic. The night view was lovely as well, we could see the stars clearly since there were minimal street lights.

The staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. Breakfast, though simple, was yummy.

Would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose ocean view rooms

Run by family. Nice and clean hotel. Beach front with great view.
Near main road and convenient.
There's no lift facility.
Needed to lift your luggage by yourself if you are staying at upper floors. Try to book room at ground floor for easier access and to carry bigger luggages.
If you prefer to buy food from 7 eleven or other supermarket, there's microwave to heat up food.
There's also washer machine and dryer facility for a fee. Dryer usage for 20 minutes cost you 100 yen.

The hotel restaurant served pizza and some other western food.

Yep, I agree with other reviewers who said this is a keeper. Four of us (me, husband, son, son's friend) stayed here as part of an 8-day Hokkaido road trip, and we all loved it. I'd goofed up our first night's reservation -- which was scary -- but they made room for all 4 of us in the family-size room on the 3rd floor. Two beds and two futons, and it was so fun that I kind of wish we'd remained in that room for the rest of our stay. Clean, bright, beautiful view (eagles!), and friendly service.

Didn't try the pizza, but we can recommend the crab place that's on the way to the boat launch in "downtown" Utoro. As you approach the restaurant, keep an eye out for the fox family (kitsune) that lives in the bushes right near it. The ramen place between the hotel and downtown (~15 minute walk) was also good.

Oh, and the boys saw a brown bear on their hike up Mt. Rausu -- although the hike had to be aborted due to snow (not the bear).

Room Tip: Third floor probably has best views
