“Once is enough!”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

We have just returned from Tomamu and all agreed that this shall be our last. We were holding high expectation of this trip to Tomamu after doing some research especially seeing good comments from other tripadvisor members. Upon our arrival and combing the area the first day, we felt that the rating on the resort was being over-stated. We would give a rating of 2.5/5.

We were greeted by a small lobby and a thin looking Christmas tree but a cup of welcome soup warmed our heart. It seemed that the hotel staff selectively helped hotel guest with the luggage and we were the unlucky one that had to help ourselves even though one of the hotel staff accompanied us all the way to the lift.

We have chosen a ‘Fourth Room’ and it was big as promised. The bed was uncomfortable and after our 2nd day, we have decided to shorten our stay by 1 day. The toilet was proportionally small given the size of the room. The view from the room was breath-taking for we were staying above 20th floor and the room cleanliness was okay.

The hotel offers ski-in/out facilities but we have to travel by shuttle bus to another place to engage ski instructor which we find an integrated service within the hotel would be better. We also learned that the hot bath was just a mock up onsen for it was ordinary water used.

We had a chance to sample a few restaurants during our few days stay and the most memorable taste was from the soup curry restaurant. The rest were just so-so.

We personally feel that Hilton Niseko would be a better option.

We went Tomanu in Feb 2012 during winter season.

Upon arrival at Tomamu station, we found the resort bus already waiting at the station to pick resort guests up. There is also shuttle bus that goes round within the resort.

We tried the snow mobiling and totally enjoyed it. There's lovely view along the way during the snow mobiling route.

We managed to get a somewhat high level room and the view from our room window was breathtaking (see attached pic). Beds were comfortable and the beds were also facing a large window. There's a separate living room area upon entering the hotel room.

The restaurants at the hotel itself are expensive. Although the food outlets at the cluster of restaurants located next to the hotel are still somewhat affordable.

Don't think there's any 24hr convenience stores in the area however there is a shop at the hotel selling some snacks and drinks which opens up till 11pm or midnight (not too sure).

Stayed here with family members and definately loved the hot baths~ you will not fully experienced japan if u have not taken a bath in these hot springs~ a must try~!

Food on the other hand was good~ alaska king crabs and snow crabs are abundant and pretty cheap~ the japanese honey dew on the other hand is really sweet and also a must try~ heater is available in room but i prefer the natural freshness from the mountain air~

Service is just top notch~ humble and friendly people~ Aino tribe show is awesome~!

The room is spacious and the catering facilities are sufficient. The main dining areas will be buffet restaurants and plus other restaurants (including Italian, Japanese, Sushi & others) within the catering mall.

The buffet restaurants provide quality food and the service is very good as weel.

The spa is also a good experience for take a hot bath in the open space tub. With your body soaking in hot water but your head will feel the cool air surrounding you.

It's very quiet and nice resort. The snow quality is good and the food is excellent. I love this place. The only complain is it's very expensive for middle income people. Overall it's very good. I wish I can only afford to stay 4 nights instead of 2.

Room Tip: Choose a location closer to the ski centre

We stayed here end of June. No doubt this would be a good ski resort like all the other comments has mentioned. But it is a good resort during the summer as well. Just make sure you stay there after July 1st, as that is where all their facilities officially open. However, if you did not do enough research like me - the only attraction that was opened for us was the unkai terrace & indoor wave pool... but dont get me wrong! The unkai terrace is a really good experience!!! We got up at 4am, took the 445am bus to the cable car and saw the sea of clouds!! Amazing and breath taking view. They also have a really long list of restaurant choices within the resort. We had dinner at the Japanese sashimi restaurant (forgot the name) but everything was so fresh and it was just great!!!!! Good stay!

Stayed in the "Tower" for 3 nights during low seasons so the place was not crowded. We were on the 30th floor and the views were just magnificent (see attached pics). They have around 10 to 15 ski tracks there ranged from beginners to experts and well managed. Snows were powdery and really beautiful. There were around 20 restaurants of different cuisine for you to choose from and the qualities were pretty impressive as well. The resort has a Ice village with all structures built in ice - an ice bar, ice restaurant and some souvenir shops there - pretty cool. The ice restaurant served cheese and chocolate fondue also. A good experience to try that under the freezing cold weather in an ice built structure. They also have a Polar village where you can do ice treking, cross country ski and snowmobile etc.

All staffs in the resort were helpful and friendly - typical Japanese people. However the staffs in Ice Village particularly at the Ice bar and Ice restaurant were kind of "cold"... probably due to the prolonged period of time working in the freezing temperature.
