This probably won't be short - sorry!

This was the final stop of our honeymoon; we spent 10 days prior in mainland Japan. When my husband suggested Japan for our honeymoon I was hesitant, but he suggested we could go to Okinawa for the last half to enjoy the beach. After lots of research and cross referencing reviews I landed on Kafuu for the last 8 nights, and it was wonderful!

Location: Kafuu is about halfway up the island, 50 minutes from the airport and at least an hour from Naha. If you want to explore then you will need a car (we didn't so paid a bit in taxis). It is easy to reach from the airport by bus which drops you at the nearby Moon Beach hotel (which looked fab from reception if a bit dated and cheap in comparison.)
The beach is just across the road, it's not much to shout about but quiet, sandy and in it's own way beautiful. (Side note: there is a beach house bar next to it, more on that later).
The town itself is reasonably busy with lots of restaurants, but not many bars.
For context: we are a British couple who enjoy quiet holidays but also a bit of a daytime tipple on holiday, this isn't a place used to such company but the hotel met this need and there was something calm and respectful about the lack of "bar culture".

The hotel /room: Clean, modern and friendly. I have only a couple of small niggles, which I may as well share, our greeting at reception was quite cold, which was out of synch with the rest of the staff so one must excuse them of having a bad day.
As mentioned above we got the bus from the airport and then a short transfer provided by Kafuu, with a lovely driver! Then check in was quick.
The room, on the 11th floor, was huge! Admittedly after Tokyo most rooms are huge! However, as you walk through the door you have a small corridor, a small storage room for suitcases (very handy), a large bedroom - note, 2 small doubles/ large singles pushed together (at one point in the night I thought I had lost my husband in it), a bathroom with seperate toilet, bath/ shower and a central mirror /sink / vanity area, a living / dining / kitchen / giant sofa area and a balcony. It was huge! The kitchen included oven, microwave, washing machine, coffee machine and most important for us Brits- a kettle.
The giant sofa area contained the spare beds (in theory you could easily sleep 4) and before I went I was nervous about this but once there it was lovely having more space to lounge about on rainy days.
Note: your water heater is just outside the bath area on the wall, you just turn it on, it's so easy! As we learnt after 2 cold showers.....
Overall it was lovely!

Pool / Bar: There are 2 pools at the resort, one on the roof of the annex and one by the main hotel. Both are lovely! If small... I have no idea what they do when the hotel is full. Sunbeds are ridiculously comfy and large, towels are free and the pool is clean.
The bar menu is limited but decent, you order at the bar inside and they bring the drinks to you - great service!
Also, the Kafuu Beach bar down the road is a nice quiet space with sunbeds on the roof! We pretty much had it to ourselves- try the lime gin and tonics!

Food - was incredible! There are 4 restaurants;
- Blue BBQ at the top of the annex: grill your own steak! Great drink selection, good views, unusual sauces... (I missed soy sauce).
- The Orange in the hotel: mostly European fare, good wine, good pasta, good seafood.
- The Restaurant Muku: there is an expensive course menu which looked great, if expensive, we chose a la carte and it was delicious! They also do an "all you can drink" offer on wine and beer for ¥2500 which we took advantage of. This was by far my favourite restaurant with the best food and service - they also remembered little details, like my soy sauce obsession!
Deli/ Cafe: great for daytime fare for food / pool drinks and for evening chill out, the most relaxed area with a nice mix.

Side note: if you pay for a room with bed and breakfast you get vouchers which you can either use for breakfast or for lunch for the value of ¥2000 which you can exchange at most places (we only tried Blue and the Deli), this was a great idea!

Overall the food was incredibly good, it wasn't mainland Japanese fare - we are in Okinawa- but it was fantastic and quite good value!

Service: The service was incredibly polite and friendly, they were receptive to our broken Japanese and well versed in English. Great polite, professional and friendly people.

The other guests: I always think this is important at a resort, you want to know who else will be around you 6 hours a day! It was primarily young families, which we quite liked as there was an absence of boozed up young groups. In fact as Brits on honeymoon quietly drinking wine by the pool we were probably the most boozy pair. I think we were the only Europeans, fine by us! But if you like to come on holiday and meet other Brits abroad this might not be for you. There was a smattering of Australians on a golf your and a couple of Americans but it seemed to be mostly Asian families. It was a lovely calm, polite family friendly vibe. As a young couple though we never felt out of place but I wouldn't want someone expecting an adult only honeymoon to come here. It was a very lovely vibe!

Also, whilst we never took advantage of it there is a Spa, a golf course and apparently a wide host of things you can request : including a WII for your room... video games on holiday anyone?!

Small niggle: whilst the view from the 11th floor is great you can hear the restaurant/ pool above, it's not that noisy but be conscious with light sleepers.
Also, cleaning is daily but you can opt not to, and if you tell them the day before you don't need it they give you a ¥1000 voucher to spend at the hotel.

Overall: perfect. Truly beautiful!
Come for a nice quiet holiday eating good food and feel relaxed!

One of the best suites in Okinawa. Excellent view on high floor, comfy beds. Friendly staff for check-in and check-out. Everything is first class and five stars. Location is right in the middle of the island. Near by highway, so go north to Aquarium or south to Naha downtown is around 1 hr driving.

The only draw back is a bit far from the beach, the tiny pool and the hot corridor before entering the room. But I could live with it.

Room Tip: High floor

Location: Excellent. Situated on a slight hilltop yet minutes walk away from the beach/shops. Personally feel it's more advantageously located than other hotels as provided stunning view yet still accessible to everything incl beach, shops.

Room: Luxurious resort feel. Great for couples or families.

Facilities: Everything you need is there. However gym could have been slightly more equipped as it was very small.

Staff: Fantastic with first class service.

All in all would come back to stay again in a heartbeat.

Stayed at a spacious 700sqf Japanese style deluxe. Pasta at Orange restaurant was superb although our intention was to try their traditional Japanese meal. Quiet, mid way through to up island landmarks and aquarium. Infamous Ryukyu grill house just minutes away had wonderful prime tenderloin! Perfect for those who wants to get away from city jungle. Will go back again.

Very disappointed that the beach house and amenities were not open for our beach vacation. While the room and, particularly, the bathroom, were quite nice, lack of beach chairs and facilities severely compromised our vacation. Also, the doors for the bedrooms are louvered, which make for a significant lack of privacy. The hotel pools also do not open until April 1st. As our visit was the last week of March, it made for a poor swim/beach vacation.
