A real traditional soba house, you get to sit on the tatami floor too.
We got here for quite late lunch around the 1pm mark so we didn't need to book, found it by chance as it's opposite the glass bead shop. This has to be one of the most pleasant lunches I've ever had, so relaxing and authentic it's an experience.
My dining partner and I both ordered the ebi tempura soba - one warm, one cold so we could try it both ways. The tempura was fantastic, light and crispy. The soup in the warm version was clear and tasty, and the sauces for the cold soba were oh so delicious. Now for the most important part - soba was the best I have ever eaten, cooked to perfection!! As one reviewer has mentioned they give you the soba water as part of your meal and that was a wonderful addition, very Hakuba. Would highly recommend this as part of your Hakuba experience, the Nagano region of Japan is actually well known for their soba (try to get shinshu or shinano soba) so it's like a right of passage to eat some here, not something to be missed!
