Hotel De Laile has some plusses: located within a short walk of Sakka lifts (but not a ski out location); a good indoor and outdoor onsen; a good restaurant with a view out to the Happo One resort; early check in is possible; pick up and drop off from/to bus and train station; and our room was big enough.
BUT it has deficiencies like limited wifi on two floors; tired and dirty walls, carpet, and doors; a reception area which is not always attended ( the receptionist often sits in a break out area and so you always have to call out for attention); and an inflexibility around breakfast times (served between 7.30 and 8.30am) and around dinner ( you have to book a day ahead). For me, the most important irritation is the lack of internal access to a proper ski storage and drying room. There are two shipping containers in the underground car park in which you can put your skis and boots, but not your ski clothing. These containers are not only outside of the building, they are insecure, and the shelves are dusty inside.
There are better lodges and hotels in Hakuba than this one.
