“Great snow, fantastic runs for all skiers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

As beginners, we had a fantastic time trying out the wide variety of runs on Goryu (and joined resort Hakuba 47). Most of the chairlifts are great and the gondola was good, with a nice restaurant at the top. The best part, however, was undoubtedly the quality snow!

“Best ski field signage in Hakuba”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

We enjoyed Goryu, it has very modern and well maintained facilities. There is a great restaurant at the top of the gondola (called 360 degrees). The trails are signposted very well, with markers along the way. Has some great runs.

“Powdery Snow - Great for all level of skiers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

We were in Hakuba in Dec 2011, near Christmas and spent Christmas in Hakuba. It was truly a white Christmas, with lots of snow. In fact, snow arrived in Hakuba only in mid-Dec 2011. Once snow arrived, we have lots of it, which was great for skiing!
Goryu Ski Resort has food outlets, ie Subway and local Japanese food. Convenient. Just ski in the morning, have lunch at Escal Plaza which house facilities like ski rental, shops, and food outlets. And off you go again to ski! They have neat little shops outside the ski resort that sells wonderful snacks like Takoyaki and Gyu Don. Great value for Day Pass if you have a day or multiple Day package, refer rates at http://www.hakubagoryu.com/e/liftcharge/index.html. We stayed near the ski resort, about 15 minutes walk in thick snow to reach. There are lots of accommodation, both budget and luxury around the ski resort. Just research and email them for rates and location to decide your accommodation. We stayed at http://hakubabackpackers.com/index.html. They have rooms/dorm type or self-contained cottage. We stayed in self-contained cottage, which is cosy and complete. The owners are nice and friendly people too! Other than that, they have a number of hostels there as well! In fact, there are numerous hostels, hotels lining just before you reach the ski resort.
The snow in Hakuba is powdery, easy to ski even for beginners. The ski resort has skiing coaches available as well.
We took the shuttle bus from Tokyo Narita airport direct to Hakuba via Hakubus http://www.hakubus.com/ at and they dropped us at our accommodation. So it is convenient.
Great place to ski if you want powdery snow and experience true Japanese culture, albeit the cost to get there! In short, make plans to stay longer to make your skiing trip worth the money!
