“Mtb in Hakuba”
Reviewed June 26, 2014

Stayed at B&B Santana for a week in June 2014 ,with a few mates looking for some good mountain bike trails. Couldn't have asked for a better stay. Warm and friendly hosts (Albert and Fumi) and clean and tidy lodge, family atmosphere. Had the on-suite rooms and the continental breakfast ,all good and at a very reasonable price .
Albert is a gun mtb rider and was like having a performance coach, guide, and mechanic on the team. He showed us the good trails ,how to ride the tough spots ,rode with us most of the time ,and also kept the bikes repaired and in tune.
Fantastic trip , we were lucky with the weather but best to avoid the rainy season if you can.
I'll be back..

Having just returned from my trip I have had time to reflect on a great week. Santana is a great place to stay, comfortable, clean and spacious but it is the "add ons" that make the experience.
The service is great, the advice is spot on and the friendly and relaxed nature of the place makes this a really nice place to park up.

My family and I recently stayed at this great accommodation. The Hosts were very friendly and the accommodation is 2mins walk to the mountains. It was great coming back in the afternoon after several hours in the snow, to a roaring fire and the whole place so toasty warm. They provided a very good breakfast (continental) there was fresh fruit and yoghurt, warm crissants, cereal and ham etc. You could also order dinner if you so wished, which was great if you were not wanting to go out, although there were several lovely restaurants 5mins walk. The rooms were pretty small but beds were very comfortable and we had a ensuite bathroom but if you didn't the bathrooms were very clean.

A great place to be able to walk back to after a day on the slopes. The couple who run the b & b are enthusiastic and welcoming. They arranged discounts on ski hire and lift passes and they also have an arrangement with the ski hire shop which means you can leave your equipment there over night instead of lugging it to the B and B. Having said that, the accommodation is so close to the slopes it wouldn't have been such an issue.
There are DVD players in the rooms with a wide range of
films to choose from. The drying room is very spacious.
If I were looking for negatives, the rooms were on the small side and the food was ok - compared to the high standard of food throughout Japan.
Recommended.

We stayed at Santana for 4 nights in January. It was very warm, cosy and comfortable with clean rooms and share bathrooms (ensuites are available), and a lovely spacious common area with a stove heater. They have all sorts of handy things like a laundry and computers/ wifi / DVDs / books. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and provide a delicious filling breakfast with great coffee and the best GF bread my coeliac son has ever had. Dinner and drinks are also available - including more delicious and healthy Japanese food with GF options. The location is handy - 5 to 10 min walk to the snow terminal and about 10 min walk to the station, though Albert can pick you up or drop you off. We also went XC skiing which was beautiful. Highly recommended!

Santana was recommended to us by a friend how stayed in February 2013. We stayed in December 2013 for a week and left wishing we had arranged to stay for much longer. It was a wonderful experience - very relaxed atmosphere in a clean, cosy, and incredibly affordable lodge. The family (a Dutch husband and Japanese wife with two small children) are lovely and make every effort to ensure that you have a great time. They can arrange discount lift passes and gear hire discounts with one of the local rental shops and the gondola for the Hakuba-Goryu ski resort is only 300m walk away.

Kamishiro is a short distance from the main Hakuba village and so is much quiter in terms of night life (there are still a couple of good bars though and some really nice places to eat within a few hundred metres).

Cannot recommend this place enough - we will definitely be back!

We stayed at B&B Santana Hakuba in December 2012. The owners of the B&B make you feel absolutely welcome and provide you with all the information necessary. The location is perfect; walking distance to the ski field, shops and restaurants. The room was perfectly fine; decent beds, clean bathroom and working WIFI. The breakfast in the morning is continental and offers a good range. The drying room downstairs is extremely practical. But the best feature is the wood burning stove in the main area. It is perfect to end your day of skiing here with a nice drink before you go to bed. Also, it was a nice surprise to find out Albert is actually Dutch, as are we. All in all, a great stay. It is not a 5 star hotel but a nice B&B with a laid back style that makes you feel very welcome.
