“Big Bear Chalet 2”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

We stayed at BB Chalet 2 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chalet was clean and well equipped and a great place for our family of four to relax in after skiing in. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom and shower were very efficient. The open spaces around the chalet were used by the kids to play in too. Darren, the manager, was wonderful, he pre-stocked the fridge and helpfully drove us everywhere we needed to go. As we were staying there after season, the area was very quiet but 'Hummingbird' restaurant was good, and taxis home from other places weren't too bad. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at Morino Lodge for 6 nights and loved every minute of it! Craig, Matt and the staff are super helpful and always happy to help out with anything. We arrived at 2am and they called our taxi driver to let us know how to get into the lodge, where our room was, and they had also put the heater on so it was nice and warm. The breakfast is good, the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, the lounge room is great and the Kitchen guy does a great ski wax! I also definitely recommend the Nabe night the lodge puts on. Overall it was an excellent experience and would definitely return and recommend it to anyone.

Amazing! Big Bear is an amazing place to stay, the photos do not do justice on this place. The Onsen was a bit of a let down in BB2. Didn't seem to stay hot :(

Rooms are spacious, and the lounge room was an awesome place to chill after a long day.

Across the road is The Pub, and always busy. Morino are amazing and once again made our trip memorable.

Parlo was a tremendous help and thanks for everything buddy! Nabe night was divine as always (thanks Pat!) and the team at Morino go out of there way to make sure your trip is a good one.

Thanks again guys!

My wife and 2 teenage children stayed at the Morino Lodge for the second time. Everything was just as we remembered from our last trip. Matt and Craig and their staff are extremely friendly and approachable and know a great deal about Hakuba and readily pass this information onto their guests. Whether it be organising taxis, dinner reservations, ski hire or buses to the various ski resorts around Hakuba, the Morino staff will do everything they can to help you.

The rooms are clean and warm and the lounge is a great place to meet up with other guests. Matt and Craig are back country enthusiasts and long time residents so if you are up for the challenge they have local knowledge of the best places on the best days. The breakfasts are excellent and Wednesday nights “Nabe” night is brilliant and should not be missed.

We keep coming back because we know it’s good.

Thanks to the Morino team for making our first visit to Hakuba a comfortable, and relaxing one. They arranged a pick-up from the Station, booked restaurants and recommended them as well. The simple breakfast was tasty, and the Pizza's on pizza night were soooo good after a long day on the slopes.

We stayed in a Western room with Tatami flooring which was a good combination of western meets edo! the room was spacious - although the mattress was very hard which wasn't kind to my bruised body!

Overall a great stay, will come back with a bunch of mates!

When we were back in Hakuba in early 2012 (and although staying elsewhere) we called back in to say hi to Craig and Matt at Morino Lodge. This prompted me to wonder why I hadn't written a review at that time. What I can say from previous experience while travelling with a large group, is that if you are looking for convenient, friendly and value for money accommodation in Hakuba it would be hard to go past this place. Morino Lodge is a friendly and comfortable stay in one of Japan’s must-visit powder destinations. When we last stayed here in 2010 nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the team, whether it was shuttling a group to the supermarket, onsen or bus terminal, making restaurant reservations, brewing the morning espresso, translating Japanese or simply providing daily advice on ski slope and weather prospects. When I come back to Hakuba it'll be Marino Lodge that will be my preferred place to stay once again.

My wife and I recently stayed at Morino Lodge and even though this was our first time in Japan, they catered to all of our needs. From picking us up from the Gondola life to cooking yummy vegetarian food to giving us suggestions on places to eat and visit, this was truly one of the best vacations we have had.
The free wifi was great as well!
