Hakuba Windy Lodge

If you are looking for comfortable digs, with great Japanese hospitality, Windy is it......this is one of those places where you get to feeling so comfortable, you don't really want to leave.
Our hosts were so helpful and friendly, as were all the staff. They will happily help out with anything they can.....from a lift to town for hire gear, dinner, bookings, etc....to discount lift-tix and an icy cold beer or a warm sake, after returning home from a day on the hill.
The in-house onsen also helped cure all aches after skiing and boarding.
It is similar to staying at a lodge back here in Australia....a very relaxed atmosphere, with a really hearty breakfast provided each day.
WIndy is also very handy to the Saaka lifts, which are only a 5 minute walk away.
Their restaurant is also well worth visiting - the yakiniku (Japanese BBQ), was delicious... & the famous wagyu lived up to all expectations....we will be back. :-)

We took a weekend trip to Happo-one from Tokyo, and having read the reviews on Resort House Windy, were happy they had two rooms available for the one night we'd be staying. We had two twin rooms, both using the shared bathroom facilities, but this is no hardship. The shared facilities are three toilets and four washbasins on the first floor, and two individual indoor mini-onsens (Japanese shower and hot baths) on the basement level.

We were picked up from Hakuba bus station on Saturday morning, and dropped back there for our return bus and bullet train back to Tokyo on Sunday afternoon, which was great with a heavy board bag in tow. The room was small but perfectly functional: two single beds, table and lamp, some hanging space (our friends' room had a wardrobe), a sofa (our friends' room didn't have that), a heater and a small fridge.

The Sakka lift is just a two minute walk from Windy, and Spicy rentals just a bit further down the hill, so the location is great. We were only there for one night so weren't too bothered about nearby bars and restaurants but there are definitley a few. But I'd recommend eating at Windy in their restaurant, Wagyu Kobeya. We had a fantastic yakiniku dinner where we cooked Wagyu beef on a hot stone tabletop grill, but they also do all manner of Japanese dishes. I'd suggest booking if you do want to eat - we forgot and nearly missed out.

Breakfast the next morning was good too - cereal and fruit as well as hot chicken dumplings, fish, omelette and bacon, and a great coffee machine!

All in, this suited us perfectly for a short stay. We didn't really use the lounge area, but that's comfy and quite big, so the small rooms don't really matter if you were to be hanging out in the lodge for a few hours. Wifi is also available.

This cosy family run hotel provided myself, partner and friends with our home away from home for the 10 days that we stayed in Hakuba. The family which own and run the hotel have done so for 26 years and during this time have created a homely, warm and welcoming residence for their visitors. The hotel is VERY conveniently located within a minutes walk from the Saka quad chair lift at the Happo-one resort and has bus stops for both of the mini-bus services which operate throughout the township of Hakuba just out the front. The staff at Windy were fantastic and ready to help us with any questions that we had and always provided us with answers and solutions, be it bus time tables, shopping locations, ski tips, travel tips you name it. Our experience at Windy was made all the more enjoyable by the fantastic restaurant (located on the first floor) and bar (located just next door). Our dinning experience at Wagyu Kobeya restaurant was our most memorable meal while in Japan. The atmosphere of the small yakuniku restaurant is fun, warm, friendly and the food on offer is amazing.

The rooms at Windy heat quickly and the presentation upon arrival was spotless.
The communal living rooms both upstairs and downstairs provided excellent areas to chill out, read, chat, watch TV or play a game of chess or jenga.

Our time at Windy went far too fast.
We are all counting down the days till we can get back.

Windy was an amazing place to stay for our skiing adventure, you can walk just down the hill to the saaka chairlift which is very convenient! The family that owns Windy are some of the nicest people I met on my trip. There is an amazing wagyu menu in the restaurant and the rooms are very comfortable. When I go back to Hakuba I will be staying at Windy!

Staying at Hotel Windy was a truly special experience. We stayed there with my partner and his mum and sister and we all agree 100% that if we ever go back to Japan we would go to Hakuba and stay at Hotel Windy. The genuine warmest of welcomes we received from all staff members made us feel completely at home. They went out of their in many ways even to get us into town so I could find some decent snow boats just before the shops closed. Chloe and Ben were exceptional and always to have a good chat and still go above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The rooms though basic were clean, comfortable and very toasty against the outside winter elements. The onsen's on the bottom floor was truly a god send after a day on the slopes. The location from the bus stop was a mere couple of metres and the closest slopes about a minute down the road. The cost was very reasonable. All in all I would highly recommend Hotel Windy!

Hakuba Windy Lodge was a delight to stay at! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay and its situated in a great location of Hakuba, only about 100m from the nearest ski lift. All staff speak English, they offer a great pick up/drop off service and their Wagyu Beef restaurant is to die for! The rooms are quaint and cosy and there is a real 'homely' atmosphere. Run by a Japanese family, you wont find better 'lodge' style accommodation in Hakuba!
