We booked this hotel through an Australian agent in Jindabyne because we were on a budget and it was the least expensive of accomodation available. Because of this, we were not expecting much, just a warm bed for the week. We were very pleasently surprised however to find a very comfortable, clean room (very large by Japanese standards) with views overlooking the slopes and abundant amenities. We also had our own ensuite, TV and fridge and the beds were very good to sleep on. The hotel facilities included a large drying room, breakfast/dinner restaurant and a free massage chair. Best of all......the place was equiped with its very own Onsen (Hot Spring Bath). As the hotel is quite small and private we had the (his and hers seperate baths) to ourselves for almost every visit. The doors in the Onsen area can be opened to let in the fresh snow air and the baths are very hygenic, being cleaned every day like clockwork.
We knew we had breakfast included with our accomodation and expected toast & cereal like we received the year before (when we stayed at a lodge run by Australians), Instead we were greated with a different meal every morning. Breakfast always started with fresh yoghurt, fruit, cereal, bread, juice & coffee and ended with a main plate varying with eggs cooked a different way each morning, sausages, bacon, hash browns and curly fries. These breakfasts are very large and really gear you up for a day of snowboarding. The wait staff are always so friendly and happy and are constantly filling up your coffee and asking if they can bring more bread etc. They are so nice, so lovely that I felt as though I could never say thank you enough (ended up buying the staff and owner chocolates and biscuits ). On the last day for breakfast, staff went to the special effort of making us an extra side dish of french toast with blueberries .....so delicioius.
Mr.Maruyama the hotel owner does not speak much english but he is so happy to try and help in any way, he drove us to other restaurants for dinner every chance he could to save us walking in the cold. He was always very smily and friendly and made us feel at home.
This hotel is in walking distance to Happo ski lifts and only a short bus ride from Hakuba 47 which is the largest (and in our opinion best ski resort). A number of restaurants are also close by (Steven's Mexican is great) and a convenience store is just up the road.
Internet access is complimentary both wireless in room and on the hotel computer downstairs.
We absolutly reccomend this hotel. The service is like no other we have received, more personal and more attention to detail than any five star accomodation we have stayed at. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!
