We looked around for quite a while before we found this great cozy lodge in Hakuba. Great service by very friendly staff. Sooo close to the Happo One lifts, which is very very convenient. Cool Bar on the same property for extra convenience too.

Took our 3 boys (21 and 2x18 year olds) with us on our first overseas skiing holiday in February 2012 and had a great time at Penke Panke. Close to lifts, great breakfasts for all of us, friendly and helpful staff and convenient to the lifts. Shuttle bus to grocery store or ATM and easy to catch the bus to other resorts. Self contained apartment meant that we could all veg out at the end of skiing or join in the common room. Great internet access to keep in touch and Justin and his team were always available for advice or help. Ski hire was easy and arranged for us, pick up and drop off at info centre when arriving and leaving so all good. Justin is planning some upgrades and the rooms look great. Also arranged for some of our luggage to go the airport so that we could do our further travel without a whole lot of ski gear. Picked up our gear from the airport when we departed without a hitch. Thanks for the stay.

I can only say that the glowing reviews I read on Penke Panke before we came are all spot on. Our family of 5 stayed 7 nights in late March in one of the family rooms. Justin and his team were fantastic and always caring and helpful. He even took us to an amazing sushi train restaurant out of town one night.

The daily shuttle to the ATM/supermarket (and sometimes nearby restaurants on the way!) was very convenient. Absolutely loved the daily breakfast, especially the different yummy hot dish every day. The room was not huge but the beds are very warm and comfy. The boys loved the games room (what a surprise).

As for location, it is surrounded by picturesque forest area, is walking distance to resturants and is only 2 mins easy walk to the Sakka Quad lift.

There was not very many people at the lodge when we were there (being late in the season) so the shared areas were never crowded, except for the kitchen which can understandably get busy just before dinner.

Penke Panke is highly recommended to anyone visiting Hakuba!

Room Tip: Room 20 for a family was very convenient to the shared living areas, while still quiet enough for a...

Penke Panke was perfect! 2mins walk to the lifts, close to restaurants, bar right next door, free shuttle services to grocery store, atm and onsens daily, and amazing staff. Justin and his team were always willing to offer advice or lend a hand when needed. Always great to get some local knowledge. The team were really friendly and certainly made us feel at home and want to come back again! Highly recommend staying here whether your a backpacker, couple, group of friends or even a family. We were on a belated honeymoon and the self catering room was perfect for us, however it was nice to come into a relaxing common area to mingle with others. All amenities at the lodge were easily accessible and great to use. Thanks Penke Panke for the best snow holiday ever!

I couldn't rate Penke Panke more highly. It is a friendly and comfortable lodge well set up for snow sport enthusiasts, located about 100m from the main Hakuba lift and a short walk to many restaurants. The complimentary breakfast was always filling with fresh fruit, cereal, coffee, toast, pastries, and something cooked by the in-house chef. The Penke Panke Bar is a great place for a drink at the end of the day, and has a lovely outdoor fire. Like his staff Justin the owner was always helpful and obliging, from the first contact on the email, to queries and making arrangements whilst we were there, to getting up at 4.30am to drive us to Nagano on the last day so we could make our train connection!! Will definitely be back.

We stayed here in March 2012 for couple of nights.
Its a very comfortable lodge with cozy rooms. We stayed in room 10 which I recommend.
At first we booked a self contained room with kitchenette but it was a bit too humid in the room as it is on a ground level and wasn't so cozy. We asked if we could change a room and the owner Justin was very helpful and had another room arranged for us.
There are lot of foreigners staying in that pension. They have a cozy lounge area where you can spend time with your friends. Theres also a dry room to keep all your gear.
Its basically 5 min walk to Sakka ski lifts.
I recommend to have dinner in Hummingbird restaurant. its only 10 min away from PenkePanke. Food is delicious and owners speak good English. You might have to wait for your food a long time but its worth it.
Overall I recommend staying in PenkePanke :)

Room Tip: room nr. 10

We really enjoyed our stay at Penke Panke. Justin and his staff could not have been more helpful. Although rooms are small and breakfast area and ski rooms very crowded at times the service you get more than makes up for this. Free pickups and transfers to supermarkets, onsens and ATM's are included.
We stayed in Feb 2012. Most guests were in the 25-35 bracket but despite this our room was quiet and the beds comfortable.
Would recommend mainly for the the above demographic but really any age would be OK, although those wanting 5 star amenities should look elsewhere

Room Tip: Check the helpful website or email Justin
