Hakuba Resort Hotel La Neige Higashikan
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 31, 2012

The people at La Neige are so accommodating and welcoming as well as friendly, it is hard to put into words. Whilst the hotel could do with a little updating, this is discounted by how great the staff make the experience. We stayed for 7 nights skiing in Jan 12 and it was a great experience. From booking restaurants for you to taking you to the ski lifts to getting your boots and skis ready for you in the morning, they just couldn't do enough for you (always sincerely). We would return in a heart beat. Hakuba is a great resort and the skiing second to none - although the signage on the slopes is challenging...

Convenient location with excellent ski shuttle service to all Happo One lifts. Comfortable room with Jacuzzi bath was a treat after a long day skiing. The French restaurant is superb as are all of the hotels staff. All in all an excellent winter holiday.

Great Hotel, comfy rooms, excellent service and really friendly staff who can't do enough for you and no problems with english. We stayed there in mid Jan and had great snow with some "pow". The La Neige Higashikan is in a good location and they drive you to the lifts at Happo One if you like, otherwise the shuttle bus stops right out the front for the other ski hills. There's plenty of variety for restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and if you want surprisingly good French cuisine try the in-house restaurant (room service is good too). If you haven't skied Japan before and you're planning some sightseeing first then look into the luggage forwarding services they have (Black Cat, ABC, JAL), they're easy to find at the airport and for about AUD$20 you can have your ski bag shipped to your ski resort hotel making life much easier.

We are about to stay for our 3rd time at La Neige Higashikan. Eri Konda at the front desk attends to the guests' every need. She speaks perfect English. No carrying skis, boots and helmets. The storage room is at the entrance to the hotel. A hotel van takes you to and from the base of the mountain with no waiting. The drive is less than 2 minutes long. Great location. The rooms are very clean and quaint without feeling old or creepy. The set dinner at the hotel is incredible in both taste and presentation. The waiter remembered what I had ordered the previous day and suggested another item I might like.
Breakfast is a buffet plus a main dish that is brought to your table. Delicious croissants and brioche.
Perfect experience for a ski vacation!

We stayed at the La Neige from 14th Jan to the 23/01/11 and the hotel itself was very nice and the staff were exceptionally helpful and could not do enough for us. English wasn't a problem as there were sufficient staff who spoke well. The restaurant service was of a high standard and the meals presented well. The only drawback to Hakuba is that the area needs a make over and perhaps the resort could be a ski-in/out. The bus service was a little difficult to work out initially and could be improved. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate Hakuba a 7.

Completely agree with the previous reviews - this is a fantastic hotel!

The hotel itself is well maintain and the rooms are a decent size. The deco and outside of the hotel is reminiscent of a french ski chateau. Our room had a small annex/sitting area, which was nice for lounging at the end of the day, although the main reception of the hotel was extremely inviting as well, with 24/7 tea and nibbles infront of a roaring fire.

Not all the hotel staff spoke English, so a bit of patience is required sometimes, but this is expected when in Japan. They are all however extremely polite and helpful, and would go searching for an English speaking staff when required. Eri and her team most certainly went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

There is a regular bus shuttle service to all the slopes, but the hotel car is usually available to ferry guests who are going to HAPPO ONE. They do find it difficult dropping guests off to slopes further away (ie Iwatake) as the trip takes too long (10-15min; I think it makes the car unavailable for other guests going to the station etc). Make sure to find out the times of all the shuttle buses and get the front desk to jot it down for you, as the schedule in the lobby is in Japanese.

Food in the hotel is great. We looked forward to breakfast daily, which consisted of a changing menu of freshly prepared and beautifully presented soup , an egg course and of course fresh bread - no stale bread from the buffet for us! There is also a buffet of salad, fruits and cereals for you to pick from. It always looks inviting, and the fruit is always fresh. We had a Japanese-french fusion dinner one night at the hotel, which was also extremely delicious. We dined at other restaurants on the other nights of our stay - they are quite a number within walking distance, although I would avoid the Izakaya / japanese restaurant at the nearby Mominoki Hotel - overpriced for both the food and drinks. Hie in Echoland was fantastic as usual, and there is a regular night shuttle from the hotel to take you there.

We had a fantastic time in Hakuba and at La Neige Higashikan, we would definitely stay here again!

The staff Shin, Anna and Ken, were incredible and met us outside at 2am when our bus arrived, magnificent room with a jet spa and overlooking the snow drenched forest, complimentary nibbles - with tea and Juice 24/7 in the Lobby where the open fire place is, the staff drove us anywhere we wanted to go, also took our ski hire back for us. Slopes for all abilities 1minute up the road. Language wasnt a problem
