What a complete lodge that is super friendly base to meet like minded ski bums with all facilities including chill out rooms. Great beds, close to good bars in Echoland and the bus to take you to the many different ski resorts!

Great spot to stay and best value in Hakuba!
My friend and I turned up at Hakuba with no accommodation booked and ended up at HPL. We were very pleased with our stay! Nick and Hiro were more than willing to help us organise our time in Hakuba. Most of the guests are in the 25+ age group and there is a real family feel to the place, but at the same time you are more than welcome to share a few beers around the wood fire with the other guests after a day on the slopes. Rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas are kept very clean. I highly recommend you try out HPL for your stay in Hakuba.
I have stayed at HPL a number of times during my trips to Japan.
I have always found it a great place to stay. No matter what your level of ability of skiing, advice is on hand from Nick.
It is a relaxing place to stay. You can cook a meal, watrch a DVD, read a book. and no one hassles you.
JUSTCO shop is close to the lodge.
Bus stops for the slopes are only 5 mins walk away.
You will enjoy your time at HPL for sure.
While we were there, Nick and his wife Hiroko, went out of their way with advice on places to go eat, helped up book onsen and where to go back-country.
The crowd is young, backpacker style and friendly. Lots of people on long stays, and if you are looking for a long season in Hakuba that isn't going to break you financially, you would have a tough time finding a better place.
Location-wise it is excellent as well. Rentail shops, restaurants and onsen all nearby, but not right in the middle of Hakuba village. We had a great stay and would definitely go back.
This is the lodge to stay at if you want: easy access to the mountains with connecting bus 100m from the door/or 20min walk to the closest, sleep in a 4- or 2beds room/the 4bedsroom got a loft with two beds(recommend since you´ll get a bit more privacy up there) it´s a quiet place where people don´t party/but you´ll find quality conversations, free use of kitchen 24/7, living rooms/one with big TV and lots of dvd´s, chillzone with fireplace, single showerrooms, and 5min walk to the BEST AK beefburger and icecream in the world/and the onsen/that´s all you need after a perfect powday!! People who stay is more or less from 25 and up, and some bring the kids too. Nick & Hiro with there three kids is the owners, and because of them you´ll remember this place a lifetime! They live there, and along with the guests they create what I will call your new Hakuba family ;) I recommend it!
It was my 2nd trip to Hakuba, but 1st time to stay at HPL.
What a place, I liked a lot. The atmosphere and all people. Perfect place for powder hounders. Nick and Hiro and all the staff was like your family. Or Nick sometime like your father.
Almost no noise at evenings and we could get good night's rests.
It's not to you Bro, if you want total privacy. You share bathrooms and kitchen and all the resting areas. It's a Lodge or like Hostel.
Best place to stay, if you want a good skiing vacation.
