We( 2 adults and 2 kids) stayed in the fuki room with the outside onsen, it was fab.
Tomo (the manager) offered to pick us up from the bus stop when we arrived - make sure you go to the Happo one stop. Both Tomo and Utah ( who does everything from Taxiing to serving breakfast) could not do enough to help - taking us to the ski shop to get kitted up and to the slopes and back.
They are friendly and helpful and put customer service first.
The food is fab, we had both Japanese and western style breakfasts but we really rated the Japanese style. We were here for Chistmas day so decided to have the top Japanese banquet from the restaurant- it was worth it as the different flavours and attention to detail was amazing.
The room was a good size, beds comfortable and warm but the only negative was the aircon seemed noisy at night.
Having an outside personal onsen is a must.

We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Tomo and his staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. They always made sure that we had a way to get to the various slopes that we wanted to go to, and the meals there were top nosh. I would not hesitate to stay here again, and can't recommend them enough.

Room Tip: Deluxe value rooms were worth a try

What an excellent hotel.
Having stayed in over 60 different hotels around the globe last year (on business), this hotel is by far my favourite.
It offers refreshingly personal service where they simply cannot do enough for you. The rooms are impeccable (We stayed in the traditional Japanese rooms, a great experience), the food delicious, all amenities you expect are catered for, and the staff are just the most beautifully friendly people you could meet.
Our trip was for a ski holiday, and the dry room and ski room are great. The Onsen’s are fantastic way to relieve the bumps and bruises after a long day of falling on the slopes. It is a 5 minute walk to the slopes.
No hesitations in recommending this hotel to you.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms offer a private Onsen. Worth it. if not, Japanese rooms are very comfortable and a gre...

We visited Hakuba for a quick bit of skiing during a recent visit to Japan. I choose this hotel from Trip Advisor reviews and must agree with everything that has been said before. After staying in a number of larger business style hotels, the change to a small family style establishment was amazing.

I was first impressed when we turned up at 8:30am of our check in day to drop of our bags. We expected to just dump our bags and hit the slopes but I couldn't be any more wrong. The staff were initially apologetic for not picking us up from the train station and then showed us to one of our two rooms which was already available (at 8:30am!). Once we all got changed we were driven to the ski hire shop and onto Happo. This first impression really set the scene for this hotel, they really go above and beyond what is expected.

In addition to the brilliant and friendly staff, the rooms are of a good size and comfortable. The food was excellent and eating dinner at the hotel on at least one of your nights is highly recommended.

This was our first stay at a more traditional style Japanese hotel and would definitely be encouraged to do it again. I rarely stay the same hotel more than once but this is one case were I would certainly do it again. I can't say enough good things about this place and recommend you try it for yourself.

This is a real Japanese experience not just a hotel. The business is family run and owned by young man , brother of a Japan skiing champion . He is absolute perfectionist and his attention to details is impressive. We came for a few days of skiing and left our hearts in Hakuba. The first experience is offered when booking the hotel. Owner communicates well by e-mail and his communication has personal character not just an automated reply. He asked for our arrival time and three people came to greet us at the bus station. We felt immediately at home .
The establishment is small and very well decorated in tradiitional japanise style of a ryokan but with modern elements. We booked nagomi room which has great wooden private onsen . There is also public onsen in the hotel .
The room is very spacious with nice futons beds that are very comfortable and slightly elevated for extra comfort. Bathroom well appointed leading to very attractive private onsen made of very thick raw wood. Toilet is a state of the art device worth review on its own.
The stay comes with two meals breakfast and supper . We only ate Japanese cuisine as the two young chefs working there were very ambitious and prepared most amassing creations. Multicourse meals are served in a restaurants at the ground floor and one is welcomed to enter dressed up in kimono that is daily fresh supplied in your room. The skiing was very good and probably the same price as in Europe. On our departure we received a small gift from the owner .
The team at Hakuba Hifumi got it a good balance in their service. We were really well looked after without feeling of being overwhelmed.
The cost of stay is comparable to 5 star hotel but definitely good value for money.

Room Tip: Best to ask the chefs to suggest a meal as if you request something special they will go out of thei...

We stayed in Hifumi for a ski holiday in december. It is a wonderful boutique hotel with authentic japanese and western style rooms, an excellent chef, and immaculate service. The staff/family go above and beyond to make your stay a pleasant and memorable experience. The atmosphere is charming and authentic which feels like you're staying at japanese luxury home. For your set dinner meal, i highly recommend upgrading to the luxury set (10K yen/person). They will ask you ahead of time what you want prepared for dinner because the chef will have to go to the market to buy it fresh. We wanted crab, but the seas was rough that day, luckily they recommended the local beef. I highly recommend their local beef called Shinshu. The steak was one of the best ive ever had and i think its better than matsusaka or kobe beef! The japanese rooms were a little small and one of the larger room had their showers in your own private onsen room which was a little cold for the winter. my wife and i normally fussy travelers, but this place with its little quirks charmed the heck out of us.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter
