While we were excited prior to the visit with the autumn foliage that we were expecting to see, it was misty and trees were not in the most vibrant colours when we visited earlier this month. The ropeway tickets were not cheap, but credit to the ticketing office, they did warn us that the view on top would not be fantastic. To save on parking fees, park at the information centre (free parking) before you reach the ropeway ticketing office (which costs 500yen). When we got to the top via the ropeway, we walked a further 15min before turning back, as there wasn’t much scenery to see.

You need to prepare in advance. You can’t use credit card , Suica , origami and any other e-cash payment.
I couldn’t climb on the top due to bad weather with poor preparation.
If you are planning to climb top of the mountain, you need to prepare followings.
- Wear (never wear denim)
- Shoes
- Food
- Disposable toilet
- Stick
- GPS

Enjoy!

Allthough we have done the smaller circular route (about 1 hour), it still was amazing. The fall colors are magnificent, and the steam blowing out of the earth is mezmerizing. Don't miss, and don't forget they accept only cash...

A ten minute trip to the Sugatami station at 1,600 metres with a half hour circular walk at the top or the tougher ascent of mount Asahidake .
Cash only
The weather conditions can change rapidly
