Came during winter and grateful for the good weather as it allowed us to do some snow trekking and the view from the top is surreal. Remember to rent the trekking equipment from the visitor centre below the mountain. However, beware the weather on top can change pretty fast. Check the weather before coming. If not, the view from the ropeway up is very beautiful as well.
From the top of the ropeway, you can walk around the area. It's a loop and it's an easy walk where you can see the steam vents. I also hiked up towards the summit of the mountain. It's quite steep with loose gravel along the way. I only made it about half way because I wanted to catch the last ropeway back down. Give yourself enough time if you want to hike all the way to the summit and back.
Beautiful, this Autumn cool. It were to be 3 Mountains within our 8 days of travels here. But each has its surprises each not just a few simple words could describe. Every different turn in direction, is a view only the many whom travelled there could imagine. Definitely our vacations number one choice, because our good reviews would probably take a whole week. Hokkaido - we will be there to experience the years - its Seasons.
It's 360 degrees beautiful View. There also have many trail to serve for trek lover. I love it.
No wonder it is called as the playgroung of gods. very fulfilling. very easy to trek. definitely a place to visit.
Park at the visitor centre as it’s free parking. The car park at the ropeway station is chargeable.
The ropeway charges ¥2900 per person and only accepts cash.
At the station on the top, the route that will take you nearest to the steam vents is on the left. Both ways are just as rocky. Be careful where you step as the rocks are unstable. You may want to rent the climbing sticks at the visitor centre as we noticed some locals using them.
