“Good Coffee in a Kitsch Cafe”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Visited this cafe one afternoon, and had a really good long black. Loved that the cold water and hot water for my coffee was served in old milk and cream glass bottles. This extended the kitsch, retro and 'so-tacky-it's-cool' vibe past the '60s coffee pots on the shelves and gave Black Toast a great vibe.

Had wi-fi connection, so that's a huge plus for me, and quite a few people around me were taking advantage of the internet connection to work and read with a very, very good coffee.

Didn't have food, and didn't really look at the cabinet. The specials board did look pretty good though, so perhaps worth a trip back to try it...

“A new look for a long-time Annandale cafe”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Black Toast has replaced the former Gallery Cafe, retaining the shabby chic decor and making some welcome changes to organisation and service. Don't be deceived by the three, small tables out front - inside this cafe is huge and often full, especially on weekends. Black Toast serves great coffee - essential for success in Sydney's Inner West. They have increased space for the busy take away service for coffee and baked goods, and orders are well managed but can be slow given the volume they serve. A good selection of baked goods (but not a lot that are gluten free) and great drinks menu including maginificent iced chocolates. The new management were still settling in when I was there last, but service was a definite improvement on their predecessor. Worth a visit.
