Our guide directed us to this hidden oasis. As we drove through an industrial area in Esteli, off a dirt road, I thought 'where the heck are we going'. There only seemed to be small factories around. Next thing I know, we pull up to these iron gate, and lo and behold, inside was a hidden oasis.

Cualitlan hotel is essentially a grouping of cabins, hidden behind iron gates. The first thing you will notice when you pull in, is all the plant life. From the bamboo lining the parking lot, to the vines over the cabins, to the trees and flowers surrounding the eating area. the vegetation is varied and lush. Apparently the hotel is popular with botanical students, and leaders in this field, due to the variety of plant life to be found here.

Next, if you are a fan of antiques, this place is full of them. The antiques are used for decorative purposes, and gives the place a magical, old world feel.

The cabins are roomy, clean, and cozy. Between the large beds, tv, and heated showers, you won't be disappointed. The hotel also provides mosquito repellent for the seasons (ie. rainy season) when the bugs can get to be a pest. It is a bit pricey compared to other hotels in the area, however it is well worth it, due to the ambience and amenities.

The food is wonderful, and the staff are extremely accomodating and friendly.

I highly recommend the place. We stayed for 3 nights and loved it. I will definitely stay there again on my next trip to Nicaragua.
