“The sea & tide play a role in how the beach is at any given time...”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

The Palmar beach is an area where the sea and condition of the tide affects how clear the water is and how much stones there are on the beach based on the tide. Travelers are often surprised of the fact that the tide disappears and often comes back with much force. Our family stayed at a Lodge that was very close to the Palmar Beach. The tide in Panamá goes out and comes in at specific times based on this factor. The surf can be often very rough. There are times when the water is not clear and there are a lot of rocks. My daughter and her friend enjoyed the environment and found much beauty in the area due to the difference in what they were used to in the US. They took great pictures that were pretty amazing from the Palmar Beach.

“Nice Beach”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Enjoyed walking on the beach. There is a huge difference between low tide and high tide. Surf can be a bit rough and you do need to watch for Jelly Fish.

“Black sand beach - great surfing for beginners - best kept secret on the Pacific side of Panama”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

Great location! Close off the highway - easy access - great boogie boarding - two surf camps rent surf board for $20 per day. You can even try paddle boarding or kayaking. Great community very safe and quite...charming residential area. Enjoyed walking either direction depending on tides. On the way to San Carlos we stumbled upon a local fish market - fisherman were unloading various fish bought two red snapper and grilled them that night - excellent. For restaurants - I would suggest Carlitas or my favorite is about 10 mins away called “Los Camisones” on the right after El Valle exit on the way to Santa Clara. Best kept secret in Panama!

“Tiny and filthy”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Maybe we were at the wrong spot but we found the public beach to be very tiny and there was a lot of trash. The sea was too rough for swimming, maybe alright for surfing tough.

We saw some other beaches here wich looked better but they were private hotel beaches wich we couldn't access.
