“Our New Spot”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

We have a new spot for vacations now. Nature at it's best in San Carlos Beach Panama. The Manglar Lodge is great. The rooms are large and modern, very clean, and the bed & pillows were so comfortable. They have a restaurant and the food was so good and great service and presentation. The grounds were nature at its best. The owner Ivan was so kind and welcoming he helped us with so much information and went out of his way to help us. San Carlos is a Beach town - very clean and beautiful and quaint- not over done with high rises, it still has that beach town feeling - Surfers love it and there is a surfing school near by. All in all we loved it and will make it a priority on our vacation list. The rooms have a private entrance with a bathroom in each room. So it has that bed & breakfast feel BUT you have the hotel privacy. Thank you Iva and Staff, Captain & First Mate

Room Tip: All the rooms are great

The hotel is more like a bed a d breakfast with only 4 rooms. Our king room with a balcony overlooking the grounds was spacious and comfortable.
The restaurant/bar was good and inexpensive
We can't say enough about Ivan and Omar the two managers. They were so friendly and accommodating. They also spoke good English. Their service was excellent as we had a bathroom problem which they remedied the same day.
While this hotel is a bit out of the way we would gladly stay with them again

There's no pool at this place but its steps from a nice beach with a good beginner surf beach break. It seems the nicest place in town, even though the one next door has a pool and he others are on the beach. Lots of surf and boogie board rental and lesson options nearby. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends. We brought a group here after a conference in the city for a laid back surf intro getaway and were thrilled with the vibe, rooms, food, service and cleanliness.

Wanted to find somewhere quiet and personal for a really special, romantic weekend. The hotel was all I could wish for. The room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the garden and seating area. The lodge restaurant / bar had a comfortable feel and the outside eating area was a perfect romantic setting to eat or just talk Set in a pleasant garden the seating area is a great place to chill with a drink. The lodge is also within a short walk of the beach. Although initially stony, either side are expanses of empty golden sands to relax. I needed this weekend to be something to remember and it most definitely will be.

Room Tip: room one overlooks the gardens and seating area without being in the view of the car park.

Clean as home, you can walk barefoot around the hotel. Food as we cook at home too. Visited so many hotels around the country and this is the only one we will go back again and again. Hotel website photos are very misleading but not Manglar Lodge. You get what you see.Ivan and his cats are very friendly! The only thing missing is a dog! Perfect place to go for just one day or the whole month!

We had stayed in a B & B in El Valle for four nights without A/C and screens (we loved it!) and finished our trip at Ivan's lovely lodge. Upon arrival (we were able to check in two hours early) Ivan, the owner, ran upstairs to get the A/C going (it was appreciated and understandably so to turn it off when not in the room) for us. We laughed that we hadn't had A/C but happy that he ran off to start it up. We entered an immaculate room (#2) with a king size bed and towels folded on it in the shape of a heart. All surfaces were clean and tidy. I did ask the cleaning woman for another towel (there were two body towels and a wash towel--I just wanted one to wrap my hair up after showering), and she brought it right to me. Shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion as well as hair dryer provided along with a safe. We did mention to Ivan that the batteries were dead. Unfortunately, this wasn't taken care of while we were there.
The walk to the beach is quick. Ivan showed us how the beach with low tide runs on his tablet (great idea!) and explained where we should swim and avoid during high tide. Surfing school down the beach, we watched small girls trying to learn, and were amazed at how wide that beach is during low tide! Great time to take walks! We didn't use the restaurant except for Ivan making me a delicious pineapple smoothie. The room with A/C was almost too chilly for us--we were thinking we would be good if there had been just a fan turned on, but the bed was extremely comfortable. The shower pressure was perfect as well as temperature of water. There is not an elevator, and a black cat guards the steps. We had Wi-fi inside the room (we didn't need to sit on balcony or in restaurant for this service), and the television gets all stations.
Upon checkout, we had a wonderful chat with Ivan about Panama (our plans to retire there and this is why we are touring the country). He is a very amicable and easy going person. We had no difficulty finding the lodge, and it is perhaps ten minutes from the Coronado area and restaurants. If we had more time, I would have tried the restaurant on site. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Panama.

We were looking for a place not too far from Panama City but on the beach and also something a little quieter than a large hotel. Manglar Lodge fit the bill. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was close to a really nice beach. The rooms had a small balcony which was nice ; and the food served there was great. It is not an easy place to find; but the directions we were given got us right there no problem. I would recommend Manglar Lodge.
