We stayed there for 4 nights, a good place as a base to Shigakogen ski resort. Room is simple and clean. Good enough if you spend the whole day out. Loads of good food nearby within walking distance. Would stay there again!

Room tip: request for the lower floors, there is no lift and butler.

A Wonderful family owned and run hotel, with a very helpful, busy host. Close to the train station and with its own private indoor onsen. We had a large room with a shared bathroom and slept on tatami mats. It was clear that the hotel had a lot of history and connections to the town and local area. It felt great to be supporting a friendly and family run business. Lawsons (24hr grocery store) was just down the road and was a great location for exploring the Yudanaka area. Great access to local restaurants. We went Primarily for skiing at Shiga Kogen, accessible with local bus which takes 40-60mins from station, which can be a long journey before and after a big day skiing. Highly recommend for general visits to Yudanaka area.

We highly recommend this Ryoken. Great Hospitality from Mr. Yumoto and family. Mr Yumoto has kindly driven us to and picked up from the entrance to the snow monkey park. He also dropped us in the train station upon leaving the village. The staff provided a great breakfast as well. In summary Mr. Yumoto and his family are great hosts. Turin Family highlly recommends

We have been traveling in Japan for last 2 weeks and this is one of our highlights of our visit to Japan.
We were very lucky to have stayed at Shimaya Ryokan. Mr Yumoto and his family looked after us so well!!!

We stayed one night, and visited the Monkey Park first thing in the morning.

We had the breakfast at the Shimaya. It was a lovely breakfast, lots of food n good value.

Mr Yumoto also has snow boots which he lent us, and also drove us to n from the Monkey Park.

This Ryokan maybe basic, but it is very very clean and very comfortable.
The onsen was great!!!

Our family loved our stay here n definitely will return.
Thank You Mr Yumoto!!!

Mr Yumoto is really friendly, he even drove us for free to the monkey park and picked us up later. He gave us a lot of tips and we felt like home. We booked his outside onsen in the evening, which is 2 mins walking, at that was really a must. It was -3 degrees outside and I thought I was going to freeze, but after being in the water for a few minutes you don't feel the cold anymore when going out. Really warm you up for the whole night.
We chose a traditional room and it was really confortable and large. We recommende it!

Room tip: Traditional Japanese is the best option
