“India wildlife”

We had 5 nights at Shergarh and had the most amazing time. The location is perfect, very close to the entrance to the National Park. Accomodation is excellent, food really nice & the staff all really helpful & friendly - they look after you extremely well and nothing is too much trouble. A very sociable place and all guests eat together in the evening which is really great. The park itself is stunning with a huge range of wildlife. Birding is really good & yes we did get to see tigers so have to give this place an 11 out of ten. Would definately go back again.

After travelling via a flight and long drive from delhi, we arrived at Shergarh Tented Camp to a real gem. We were made to feel instantly welcome by Katie and her team! It was well maintained, peaceful and tranquil. a real escape from the noise, bustle and dust of Delhi, and India in general. Set in front of a small lake/pond, it felt as if we had stumbled upon an oasis in the desert. The fact that it's fairly exclusive with only 6 tents makes it that much more special.

The tent was immaculately set out and luxurious in every sense of the word. Having experienced various 'luxury' tented lodges in the more experienced domain of Africa, we can say with absolute certainty that Shergarh certainly doesn't lose out, and exceeds them in many ways!

There was a pretty cold snap when we arrived. Frost on the ground on our morning games drives at times... Hardly what one would imagine when thinking of India! The tent was kitted out with a heater, very warm duvets and hot water bottles every evening. Heavenly delight when slipping into bed after a day bouncing around the national park.

The food was absolutely delectable. Every meal was a pleasant surprise and tastebud tantaliser... The service impeccable. The decor and ambience to die for. Envision a roaring fireplace in the dining hall prior to every dinner. In-house designed eucalyptus furniture and all wood-based designs and you'll get the general picture.

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to meet Jehan. But thankfully we had Cameron. The archetypical Scots adventurer, wanderer, post grad student who became our companion, friend and conversationist throughout our stay. Thank you Cameron, you really made our stay something special! :)

The Kanha forest was beautiful in it's own right. The biodiversity of plants, trees and animals was stunning. Though we were extremely unlucky in not seeing any tigers despite multiple drives, our naturalist did his darnedest to hunt the elusive beasts down. No matter for us. The range of animals we got to see more than made up for it. Herds of sambhar deer, spotted deer, swamp deer, jackals, monkeys, wild boar, and even a sloth bear to name a few! More birds than one could even remember. Wood peckers, peacocks, eagles, warblers, storks... And of course the magnificent lush forest itself.

The hunt for big cats can often take away much of the limelight of the other creatures in Kanha. Not for us and certainly not for any other nature lovers!

That we managed to experience the warmth and comfort of Shergarh while doing so was more than we could ask for. Many thanks and kudos to Katie and her team. Highly recommend that all who visit Kanha national park do so with a stay at Shergarh! (Just a 10 minute drive away from the park gates) You won't regret it!

We spent a few nights at Shergarth and wish we had had more time to enjoy the park. The accommodation was fantastic and the lodge warm and welcoming. Jehan and Katie made us feel at home and sorted out a problem we had with transport with great efficiency. We walked up the hill behind the camp and had extensive views over the jungle. We also visited local villages which was a fascinating experience. Our naturalist was very knowledgeable and we had some great sightings.. We were provided with rugs and hot water bottles for the early starts which we appreciated as it was cold and foggy at times. The food was delicious and plentiful and it was nice to have lunch served outside. We hope to return here as it was a very special place.

We spent new year at the lodge and I could not fault it. The family run lodges are exquisite in comfort, service and extra touches. Getting up for a game ride round is hard, but a cup of tea or coffee and a wake up call makes it all the easier. The tent is immaculate and cleaned to a high standard daily and there is enough sheets and bedding to keep you warm even in the coldest months. The guide had an unquestionable knowledge on the game drives and knew the exact positon of likely tiger spots. "We had three sightings, Amazing". Finally the service Jehan and Katie gave us was immense and is what makes the stay special, taking my fiancé to their child's school, to give her a true taste of the sharp end of her profession. Overall finest accommodation and service of our two week trip. Thanks Katie and Jehan

When you hear "tented camp", it sometimes can mean less than comfortable. Shergarh was simply fantastic. The accommodations were great, the bed was comfortable, the shower was hot and you had plenty of room. It really feels like you are visiting a family at their home, and all of the staff welcome you right into the family. The food was awesome and plentiful, and Raj, our nature guide, was simply terrific. Katie made sure all our needs were met, and more so. If you plan on visiting Kahna National Park, which is beautiful, do not miss Shergarh, it will make your trip that much more special.

Everything about Shergarh was what we had hoped and better! The tents are very spacious and beautifully furnished. The bathroom area at the back is actually a proper building and again very spacious with a large dressing area and very good walk in shower. Hot and cold water plentiful and reliable. Everyone is very welcoming and you made to feel at home. The food is excellent, plentiful and very tasty. They also made a special meal when they found it was our anniversary - thanks!

Also important, now that Kanha restricts the number of vehicles in the park quite severely and allocates places on a first-come first-served basis, Shergarh seem very efficient at getting the bookings required for their guests. Their driver/guides are also excellent. Kanha is great for game - we did see a tiger, sloth bear and much else while others saw leopard while we were there. Just remember it is very cold in the morning in November! Shergarh do supply blankets and hot water bottles for the morning drives - they are needed. Bear in mind too that the tents are not heated so take warm nightwear.

Room Tip: All excellent

Comfortable, enchanting, clean, adventurous, romantic, safe, fulfilling, and charming are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Shergarh. The staff’s magnetic and marvelous way of making you feel like family was beyond my expectations. Their amenities held up firmly to western standards, and they really do think of every little detail, from the fresh flowers in your room to the hot water bottle for your lap on chilly mornings. The food was by far the most creative and gentle of all of the different lodges I had eaten at while I was in India and was consistently yummy. On top of all of this was the spectacular wildlife viewing! Out of all of the other lodge guides, Shergarh’s guides felt like scholars, their passion and enthusiasm for nature was truly inspirational and their keen sense of sight was like something out of a superhero movie, incredible! On my 3 ½ day safari with Shergarh I saw everything from Tiger (5), Leopard, Sloth Bear to Sambar and even a few Jungle Cat’s! Some of the Tiger viewing was even on magnificent Elephant back, a dream come true! If you want to experience a true Rudyard Kipling style safari while not having to surrender any of your western style comforts I highly recommend Shergarh, their intensions lie deep with eco-friendliness and true human/nature connection. I will return.
