A perfect full moon night with stars shining brightly with only the sounds of nature all around, what else would one want on a holiday in the jungles? To add to it, you have stars shining not only in the sky, but also in the form of mica shining all over on the ground and fire flies moving all around with their flickering light. This is best experienced just before the moon rise when it’s completely dark. The place I'm talking about is the Muba Resorts at the Mukki gate.
This was the first time we stayed at Mukki gate, though we have been to Kanha couple of time but always stayed at the Khatia gate. Our family of ten people planned this trip to Muba during the Holi holidays break from 26th to 31st March 2013 and stayed there for five days. We are so glad that our trip materialized even after the last minute delay of one group which joined us late in the evening. We travelled from Raipur by road in our personal vehicles. Our group by car had left early in the morning and we reached there by around lunch time. It was a very comfortable journey and we heaved a sigh of relief when ultimately we reached the Muba resort gate. But it was not to be the final destination. From the gate we still had to go further around 2 kms or so after the car park to finally reach the reception area and then to the mud houses where we had booked 2 adjacent rooms with extra beds to occupy all of us. The lush greenery and the calm and peaceful atmosphere took our breath away. We never expected this and were just more than eager to explore the resort spread across more than 66 acres of the buffer zone area of the Kanha jungle. After the memorable experience me and my family members had, I am more than pleased to rate my experience at Muba:
Resort quality: For those who want calm & peace, greenery, solitude, relaxation and just be one with nature, this is the place to be! The wonderful property maintained and developed in such a way as to least disturb the natural environment is commendable. In the early morning and late evening lights, one would find it difficult to trace their rooms as they are all surrounded by so much of lush greenery all around. There is this big lawn in the center with the reception cottage on one side. The reception area itself is worth spending time which houses a wonderful mini library for the book worms and wild life enthusiasts like me. I had borrowed 2-3 books to read and browse during our 5 days stay and spent quite some time at the reception lounge browsing through the other books too. There many artifacts on display too at the reception area. It’s a very comfortable place to relax and just chill with a nice iced tea or a hot coffee in the evening. The next best place we loved at the resort was the fire place area with the hammocks. Most of us spent time on the hammocks reading books or just relaxing and listening to the numerous bird sounds and enjoying the breeze and the swaying of the tall trees. We had good weather for a couple of days and then it became a little humid and rained a bit. The weather was very pleasant in the mornings and evenings with the afternoons being a little hot.
Rooms: There are different categories of rooms to suit ones needs. They have the cottages placed in seclusion which have glass walls on 3 sides and give a look of being right in the middle of a jungle with trees all around. We went to have a view of a cottage at night with the full moon shining brightly, the feeling was heavenly like being in a glass tent but so well protected. Then you have the deluxe rooms which give the feel of being so comfortable and get such luxurious stay even in the midst of the jungle. The mud houses are for the little rustic and for people going in groups to enjoy. It gives the feel of living in a modernized version of a village mud houses. The housekeeping service can be a little better for the mud houses since it requires cleaning at least once a day. The coolers installed in the mud houses made the afternoon nap very pleasant and we didn’t feel the need to use them at night.
Food: The package comes all inclusive with all meals along with morning and evening tea. The food quality for both vegetarian and non-vegetarians was very good and home like. The only instruction that we had to give to the cook was to make the food little less oily and less spicy. The breakfast was yummy on all the days and all of us almost overate and thoroughly enjoyed the food.
Service: If you happen to be there when Mrs. Swahela Zafar Khan & Dr. Zafar Khan are around they you are lucky. We also got lucky to have their company. Their love for wild life and nature rubs off on everyone around them. The treks and nature walks with them in the early morning and evening if you are not booked for the safari will give you an insight about the diehard naturalist that they are. They are always around to help or guide you in all ways. My mother-in-law fell ill during our trip and both Mrs. Swahela Zafar Khan & Dr. Zafar Khan being Homeopath doctors were of great help in the initial treatment and medications for her. The resort in charge Vijay is of great help for everything and will make sure that you stay with them is comfortable. Their local guide and employee ‘Khelu’ is a wonderful person who took us on morning and evening treks around the vast resort area. We are indeed very thankful to him and all the other staff – mostly all local boys who are well trained and well behaved. It’s really commendable to say that in the midst of the forest that such facility is provided without disturbing nature and trying to preserve the local flavor.
The best part we all enjoyed was the different varieties of birds we saw during our stay. To be woken up with different bird sounds was music to the ears. We had to be up early to get to see the lovely colorful birds and thoroughly enjoyed it. The best spot to see Kingfisher and other birds was the pond area, which is the perfect place for early morning tea or a private breakfast or for an evening snack time or to be just there at night to see the light show of the fire flies. We had pre-booked 2 jungle safaris – one in the morning and the other for the next day evening. Both safari’s give you a totally different experience of the jungle. If you have not pre-booked your safari, then you will be in for some disappointment for no last minute safari booking are done due to the new rules of the forest dept. The telecom operators that function at the resort are BSNL and Reliance. You are not allowed to take your phone during the safari. The resort doesn’t have televisions in any rooms. But for nature and peace lovers like our family, we never felt the absence of the television or music. When one has come to relax then I guess it’s better to be away from all the modern gadgets and just be one with nature.
The favourite place for the kids in our group and also for the elders was the play room – with Table tennis, snooker and carom to keep them occupied most of the time and just play. Then the lawn was also an excellent place to run around and play and have fun. The kids had a wonderful time. There is a list of my favourite spots, few of which is already mentioned, like the hammock area, the library at the reception lounge, the small machan at the pond area, the swings near the dining areas, the machan at the dining area, the spot outside the boundary to lie down and wait for the birds to come, the comfortable chairs to laze on the lawns, sip tea and wait for the moon to rise… and many other locations.
We got to see many wild animals and birds during the safari tour and thoroughly enjoyed the company of Mrs. Swahela Zafar Khan during one of the safari. We missed seeing the tiger but we are not disheartened as this is just the beginning of our stay at Muba Resort at Mukki, we are looking forward to stay with them in all seasons when the Kanha National Park is closed and experience the beauty of the Muba resort by just being there. Our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Swahela Zafar Khan & Dr. Zafar Khan, Vijay, Mr. Zunaib Khan, Khelu and all the staff at Muba resort for giving us such wonderful memories for life. This time we celebrated Holi – the festival of colours, in the truest form – of being one with nature and enjoying the colors of life.

I and my family visited Kanha National Park from 30th December 2012 to 2nd January 2013. The purpose was to spend the New Year in the wilderness. We stayed over at the Muba resorts recommended by a friend of mine. The place was about 4 hours from Jabalpur and the taxi from the airport to charged us Rs. 3500 each way. The approach from the main road to Muba is a bit deceptive! However as you enter, it is beautiful, serene and green place criss-crossed by artificial streams and a pond. It has cottages and mud houses blending perfectly with the natural environment. The food was excellent and tasteful. The mud house that we stayed in appeared to be a bit dark. We had gone to Muba to spend a quite New Year, but due to the presence of some groups of boisterous revelers, the resort was noisy and less peaceful. The safari was well-arranged (did get to see a tiger) and we were provided an excellent an knowledgeable guide. I was also happy that locals were employed by the owners to manage the resort. My best wishes are with them and Muba for the future. - Shouvik Datta

I was there with my family for a visit to Kanha national park. The resort is located in the buffer zone of the national park.. a great location with a wonderful ambiance (direction signs need to be more specific, found little difficulty in locating the place, and the main gate should have a sign too)... safari arrangements were made without any hassle... rooms were good (felt the deficiency of a tea-coffee maker in the room), linens were clean, food served was homely, the staff were friendly, overall hospitality was great... the best experience with Muba is discovering a good Samaritan in the proprietor Dr. Zaffar Khan who was a great friend and guidance during the brief stay. I have no doubt everyone feels/ going to feel at home in Muba....

My wife and I decided to take a break during the long festival weekend in March and travel to a place other than a beach or a hill destination (something that Mumbai'ites are not really used to doing)
We traveled to Kanha, to explore the Jungle and stayed at Muba resorts at the Mukki gate. At first sight, i was really amazed to see the size of the resort in terms of the area it owns. Its spread across a huge landscape of 66+ acres. This is how i rate my experience at Muba:

Resort quality: Pretty good property and gives you the feel as if you are staying right inside the jungle. It runs parallel to the buffer zone of the forest.

Rooms: The rooms are spread between deluxe, cottages and mud houses. We chose the cottage and it was really clean. The bathroom could have been slightly better, but was clean nonetheless.
(Tip: None of the rooms at Muba have an A/c. They have coolers installed. We traveled the last week of March, which is supposedly very hot but were very comfortable. Early mornings and late evenings were very pleasant)

Food: The package comes all inclusive with all meals along with morning and evening tea. The food quality is very good and home like. For non-veg eaters, they served chicken with Dinner. The chicken though tasted almost the same on all days. Some variety would be great.

Service: The service levels were excellent at had a personal touch. Each time we had a query or wanted to order something, it was handled efficiently. Special thanks to a guy called "Khelu" who took care of us during our stay.

Extra attention & adventure: Now this was the best part of our stay. We were warmly greeted by the owners of the resort Dr. Zafar Khan and his wife. Both of them are wildlife lovers and are passionate at what they do. They told us stories of the forest, their experiences, and even took us for a night trek on one of the nights within the resort. Mrs. Khan also accompanied us personally for the morning safari and gave us insights. This really added the zing to our stay here and we really loved each bit.

Tips for travelers: 1. Only BSNL and Reliance phones work in the area. If you are using any other telecom operator, it wont function
2. Pre-book your Jungle Safari online before while planning your stay. We ended up paying a heavy amount because it had to be arranged later through Dr. Khan's influence.
3. Take multiple Safari trips if possible, for a chance to spot more animals (if lucky, then the Tiger)
4. There is no television in the resort. If you are looking to entertain yourself other than enjoying the beauty of the Jungle, then i suggest you carry your iPod/Tablet/Portable DVD player
5. Do carry a sports shoe for treks

To sum it all up, we really enjoyed our stay at Muba and we do plan to travel once more and explore more jungles. 2 Thumbs up to the team there for making our stay so comfortable.

Room Tip: The cottages are good. If you are keen to experience the Mud houses, then they too are neatly mainta...

I and my husband visited Kanha on a Thursday and Friday and being a weekday we were the only one in MUBA resort. First we thought that visiting Kanha and roaming around in this lonely jungle was not a good idea but thanks to Muba resort we had a completely different experience.

We were introduced to Mr Bheemsen by Mr Vijay and from there on we had an awesome experience. We sat in the evening together for a little chitchat and Mr Bheemsen had a huge hidden collection of experiences and stories. He has spent his life in the wild and he knows the behavior of each and every creature. He is a proud owner of a camera worth 2 Lacs and has shot some awesome pics. I agree with the above reviews and would say that he had more knowledge than the forest guide. He is a freaky traveller , and has travelled almost half of India.

The hospitality of Muba Resort is worth mentioning specially the food which was awesome.

Though we didn’t spot a tiger but the overall safari experience was awesome. We will surely visit Kanha again and with Mr Bheem Sen would like to spot the Tiger.

Room Tip: The mud houses are good if you are travelling in groups and the weather is moderate.Otherwise prefer...

We stayed in Muba at Mukki for 5 nights in Dec '12. Originally, we had booked the Mud-hut. But on arrival, we didn't like it. We found it too basic so we shifted to the Deluxe room.

Cons:
1. Food was simple but average taste-wise.
2. The last 1 km. to the resort is a dust road & is quite bumpy.

Pros:
1. Reasonably clean.
2. Hot water is from a boiler which is heated using wood from fallen branches. We never had a problem with hot water even at 5 in the morning when it was extremely cold outside.
3. It's constructed in tune with the environment.
4. Really warm, courteous & helpful staff.
5. Booking taxis from the hotel is more reasonable than outside.

Small Tip: We found the Mukki zone the best of the 3 (i.e. Mukki, Kisli & Kanha) for animal & bird sightings. (We did a safari in all 3 zones).
