I used my starwood points to stay at this hotel and so was happy over all. I would however advise anyone staying in Cochin for the first time to stay nearer Fort Cochin. This hotel feels like a conference hotel, on the outskirts of the main area and we didnt really feel like we were in Cochin. It is relatively easy to get a rikshaw outside of the hotel but prices can vary, make sure to bargain, bargain, bargain! Do not get the hotel to arrange a car for you, they charge almost 10 times as much as a rikshaw costs. The rooms were nice, very standard starwood and the food at the restaurants was good. Overall a pleasant stay, but location not ideal.

Fantastic arrival experience. I was given a traditional welcome, beautiful lobby, peaceful and pleasant ambience. Large room with magnificient view of Pool and back waters. Food at the all day Dining Restaurant - Treasure Trove was one of best I ate in India.

Le Meridien Cochin was our final stop during our visit to Kerala. We had hoped to stay at one of the older hotels in the quaint town near the Chinese fishing nets but couldn't find a hotel that had connecting rooms that would accomodate our two young kids. So, we decided to go with a traditional hotel that had interconnecting rooms eventhough it was farther out from the sight seeing areas.

We were greeted warmly as with all the other hotels we stayed, and given a very nice lemon drink while we waited to be checked in. The hotel was going through renovations so the area didn't look quite a nice as it could. What struck me most about the hotel was the very strong, musty smell throughout the lobby, hallways and our bedrooms. It was quite unbearable to be honest but not much could be done about it. Not sure if the renovations caused this or not, but it really affected my stay there (the kids weren't bothered and my husband had a bad cold so couldn't smell anything).

Other than the very strong musty smell, we quite enjoyed our stay at Le Meridien. The rooms were nicely decorated, clean and well appointed. The bed linens were clean and crisp, and the bed was comfortable. Our rooms looked out over the pool and the small pond, which was nice. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the three level pool, although it should be upgraded as there were some broken tiles and looked old in general. However, we did enjoy the swim up bar which served some very nice tropical drinks (very expensive but worth it) and chocoloate milk for the kids. We were able to oder a small lunch by the pool each day which was convenient and the kids enjoyed checking out the ducks at the pond. The feel was quite relaxing and laid back, which we all enjoyed.

In the afternoons/early evenings we took the kids to the hotel bar where we could get a drink and the kids could have a small dinner. The wait staff was very friendly and willing to accomodate our requests for the kids. We ordered room service each night while the kids slept, which was overall pretty good. We were able to order a bottle of wine from the bar area earlier on when with the kids and it was delivered when we had dinner. We were a bit shocked at the prices of the wine. The other two hotels we stayed in didn't serve wine as it was against Kerala law, so we were quite excited to be able to order some. However, although their list is quite extensive, the prices for the quality was absurd.

The breakfast buffet was very good and offered a large variety of options to suit all of us. Again, the staff was friendly, attentive and quick. It was a good start to each day of touring.

My husband tried getting online at the business center but supposedly someone had booked time on one of the available computers so it was not available for my husband to use. Although the person was not there and my husband only had one item to check, they said he would need to wait until the reserved time was up which was over an hour later. Not a good system.

Overall, we enjoyed our two nights there and would recommend it to others assuming the hotel solves the musty odor issue.

This is one of the world's worst Meridien hotels. In fact, I hope that the senior management of Le Meridien will visit this property to see just how badly executed one of their five-star hotels can be. It's shameful what they are getting away with at the Le Meridien Cochin.

The hotel is located on a highway far from the main city of Ernakulam where there isn't much to do anyway except suffer the crowded roads and lousy city atmosphere. And, if you want to see the best of the area, mainly Fort Cochin, then spend your hotel budget at the Taj Malabar or the Brunton Boat Yard or the Trident hotels.

But, if you are an Indian, you can easily accept the endless crummy-ness of Ernakulam because this is the way it is in every Indian city: dirty, crowded, polluted, noisy, crummy and nauseating.

But, if you are a European, get ready for a rough experience when you venture out anywhere in India.

The hotel sits back from the highway on a piece of property that is in serious need of a landscape architect.

While it promises and occasionally delivers, a luxurious experience -principally in the lobby which is a grand affair almost to the point of being overdone - the visitor cannot help but notice the way the owner was too cheap to make Le Meridien Cochin an oasis from the heat, noise and crummy highway location. He could have planted a forest of greenery to hide the crummy location of the hotel. Note to Meridien hotel owners: have you ever been to SHANGRI LA SINGAPORE?

Instead, everywhere you look, except the backside of the hotel where there is an inland waterway setting, you can see the rough edges of Kerala like the dissolute roadside activities of the highway; the empty lot in front of the hotel with construction workers; and the badly planned landscaping that doesn't work hard enough to make this a value for the money.

The rooms are nice but, for the price, they are far from worth it.

The restaurant is a huge, high-ceiling curving cavernous thing that looks out on the back of the hotel. When it comes to the lunch buffet, expect mediocre dishes for a fixed price of over 700 rupees.

The restaurant wasn't kept cool enough. If you can't afford the electricity, then please add ceiling fans.

The floor to ceiling restaurant windows look out over an expanse of area that includes bougainvillaeas, palm trees and a lawn. But the entire visual effect is a hodgepodge of landscaping without proper planning.

Why can't the management turn on the lights in the restaurant? Instead, the rely on ambient light to flow in from the outside which tends to be harsh and flattening the lighting of the restaurant. It's called glare.

The lunch buffet was just passable. My drinking water, not in a bottle by request, wasn't cold.

The best way to judge a hotel staff in India is by often the waiters, busboys and other punes ask the foreigner, "What is your name? What is your native country?"

MERIDIEN MANAGEMENT GET A CLUE: FOREIGNERS DON'T WANT TO BE CONSTANTLY ASKED THESE INANE QUESTIONS.

High price; mediocre food; stupidly landscaped; stupidly located. And the you can't really swim laps in the swimming pool because it is only one foot nine inches deep.

The punes at the hotel are a lot like the punes one encounters at three-star hotels in India. They ask too many questions.

Positive note: if you don't want to go to Ernakulam, this is the best and only hotel with some reasonable access to the Cochin airport. Plan on at least one hour to reach the airport.

The hotel is located on a large sprawling property on the outskirts of Kochi. There was some construction underway so parts of the property were blocked off.

However, we had a great stay, short though it was. We had a room in the heritage wing facing the pool and a canal. The pool is a lovely three tiered one which was extremely welcoming given the hot weather! The grounds are large and well maintained and there was a small canal at the back which you could walk beside.

The food at the restaurants was very good - I especially recommend Lagoon, their seafood restaurant which is open only for dinner. We had some excellent local preparations of crab and fish which had been freshly caught just that day!

A limitation of the hotel is that it is located quite far from the tourist attractions and the main city; however, the hotel has a shuttle service to the city. The driver of the shuttle was extremely helpful - dropped us off at the marina where we could get a ferry to Fort Kochi where the main sights are located and also gave us tips on how to get around Kochi (use autos and negotiate a price beforehand).

Overall, it was a good stay, with the highlight being the food! :-)

Rooms are clean and comfortable. Hotel reception area is spacious and grand as you would expect from this sort of place.

I made use of the pool and sauna which was very nice. They have separate saunas for men and women. I tried the restaurants and I found the traditional food very nice. The same can not be said about their attempts at continental cuisine.

This was a pleasant enough place but the accomodation and food were over priced.
