“good value and cosy”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

our party of 9 stayed for 2 nights when visiting River Cottage in mid november, so we had all 5 rooms. For a mid-range B+B I thought it was good value, with some nice touches (such as Twinings tea bags). There was no hairdryer, but no problem borrowing one, and an iron. Each room had a convector heater, so nice and cosy. All the rooms were immaculate and nicely decorated (everything looked new). My twin bed was comfortable, with extra pillows and blankets. The extra cost of breakfast was well worth it, not too exciting, but excellent bacon and sausages- much appreciated by the men! We all enjoyed helping ourselves from the buffet, and our hosts were attentive without crowding or rushing us. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble- including locating a set of jump leads! We had one evening meal, and were impressed by the lovely fresh seasonal vegetables- rather like good home cooking. The steak and ale pie was delicious. The pub was quiet and orderly. I can see why the owners would not tolerate bad langauge from one of the other reviewers. Because the rooms were in a separate annexe they were quiet,( but may not be in summer when the beer garden is in use). Disabled access would be difficult due to the steep location and lots of steps although there were plenty of sturdy handrails. I loved this place and would stay there again.

Myself, husband & 7 yr old son stayed one night 3rd Nov so we could enjoy fireworks night in Lyme Regis after spending half term in the town.
We stayed in room 5 which was a twin room but they put a z-bed in to accommodate our son, clean, very comfortable beds and had a kettle with tea tray. We did not eat at the pub but food on offer showed good choices, choice of beers excellent with a lovely warm fire blazing, just what we needed after the 20 min walk back from town. Breakfast was relaxed with Steve greeting us and showing us our table; cereals, juice, coffee, tea all available and we were asked what we would like cooked, full English with lots of toast order of the day. Steve made sure we had enough of everything and was very accommodating.
We will definately stay again if needed and would recommend to anyone else. Thank you for a lovely time.

We stayed at the Talbot Arms for 1 night when visiting River Cottage HQ and we cannot recommend it enough! Steve, Wendy and the staff (especially Dani behind the bar!) were so friendly and helpful - a taxi had already been booked for our evening before we arrived! Our room was amazing! It was actually more like our own little cottage, with our own front door! Being separate from the main bar building, means you can come back at any time and not have to enter the bar / wake up the landlord to let you in! Breakfast was excellent, as were the beers / ciders we were able to sample In the bar the afternoon before! Fabulous place to stay, good value and very close to River Cottage & Lyme Regis! Loved it! Friendly and accommodating. Really helpful with travel arrangements. Excellent breakfast. Good beer. Clean and comfortable room in newly refurbished block separate from the pub. The bed was a standard double which felt cramped for us (because we have an extra large bed at home).

We stayed at the Talbot Arms 1 night for a wedding at River Cottage, from the moment we got there Steve, Wendy and staff were so friendly and welcoming, felt like we were regular visitors. They were very knowledgeable about transport etc in the local area and extremely willing to help and book taxis etc. The bar area felt like it was our local and the rooms were very clean, bright and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and served with a friendly smile. Great place to stay and would definitely go back.

We stayed for one night when visiting river cottage for the evening. Rooms were very comfortable and the beer was great. Landlord very helpful and organised the taxi for us, he couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was very good too. Would recommend this place to anyone particularly those visiting river cottage HQ.

Just spent a night in the Talbot Arms. Beer was good but didn't get to sample the evening food. Stayed overnight in one of the rooms. Fantastic!! Just what we wanted and beautifully presented. THe breakfast in the morning was amazing. We will definitely be staying again when in the area. Thanks
