Checked in and everything was lovely, our rooms were in the garden rooms, which we knew resembled a prison block and it did ! The public areas of the garden rooms were decorated in 1970s theme but clean, but worryingly had an overwhelming cherry smell, which we wondered was masking another smell (the rooms didnt smell like it though).

Our room was nicely decorated, lovely king size bed clean with a lovely view of the grounds. Then i tried to take a shower ..... which was almost impossible, hot water was sparse and the water pressure was practically non existant, so we called reception, a man turned up and said oh dear lets see if you can be moved. An hour later we called reception as we'd heard nothing (bearing in mind it was 6.30pm and we wanted to honour our dinner reservation) so we both struggled to shower with a dribble of water! We were then told at 7.10 that another room was availble on the lower floor and that our luggage would be moved whilst we was at dinner which it was. Again second room was very similar to first room decor wise, except we no longer had a king size bed, just a standard double.

During the afternoon we had used the spa facilities which were lovely and clean, very small changing facilities which can imagine when the hotel is at full capacity would be hard work, but as we had a sunday special deal the hotel didnt appear to be very busy (even though reception said they would nearly full) !

We went to the bar before dinner, the main hotel is lovely, lots of corridors to weave through but all very pleasant. Had a pre dinner drink, then went into main restaurant, If you book a dinner bed and breakfast deal make sure you tell them before your seated otherwise they give you the wrong menu! Service was ok, our waitress was very pleasant but we had to wait ages for drinks, again the restaurant was a quarter full yet service was slow. Food was ok, not great, but ok, for the money we paid we were happy, but again we had to cross out the food when we were asked to sign the bill, as he had prepaid before hand. Consistency is a miss in the restaurant, hit or miss whether you were offered a bread roll, dishes came out looking different on different tables.

Went back to our second room. The noise in the corridor was almost like our door was open from 7am the next morning, and the noise above was quite loud, a lay in was not possible due to the noise! Again our shower was useless .... can only describe as a slightly faster dribble than our first room but the hot water was consistant! Windows were absolutely saturated with condensation the next morning, so you can imagine the state of the window seals, bit mouldy (and that was in both rooms)!

Breakfast was ok, tired and tatty cereal boxes were on display, why, not quite sure! Again we were asked to sign for breakfast to be charged to our room, to be told it wasnt on the system!

The maid was knocking and trying to enter our room from 9.30am (10am check out but was told by reception it was 11am). She didnt just knock, she entered the room which i dont agree with!

We handed our keys to reception on our departure and i was hoping she would ask if everything was ok with our stay, she didnt, so i didnt express our concerns.

It was a relatively cheap night, but in hindsight we wished we had booked a premier inn and eaten at a beafeater for the same money. The advantage milton house had was the pool area, but wouldnt bother next time. Hence, the title and the 2 star rating!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are ok, if you know to expect a prison block before you check in (which we did) but onl...

Stayed at Milton Hill last weekend for just the one night. we stayed in the annexe, which many people have commented unfavourably on, and, whilst the exterior of the building isn't anything to shout about (especially in comparison to the beauty of the main hotel buliding) it's what's on the inside that's important! The annexe rooms were warm, cosy and tastefully decorated. Everything was lovely and clean and the beds were very comfortable! We didn't use the leisure facilities, but I was disappointed that I'd forgotten my cossie as they looked quite nice!! We had afternoon tea at the hotel on our arrival day and breakfast the following morning, on both occassions the food was lovely. I also thought that the bar prices were very reasonable for a hotel. All the staff we encountered on reception and in the restaurant and bar were very pleasant and helpful. Upon departure their was a query with the bill as the price stated didn't match what was on my booking confirmation - this may have been an error on my part or with the internet when I booked, however the receptionist gave us the benefit of the doubt which was much appreciated. This was my first stay at a De Vere venue and I would stay again and recommend to others.

It has taken me a long time to get around to writing this review, however I feel it essential to tell others what a magical wedding day we had curtsey of the excellent staff and beautiful surroundings of Milton Hill House.
Nothing was too much trouble for this extraordinary team, from front of house to restaurant staff and management. They made us feel like we were VIP's and can safely say to any of my friends & family that Milton Hill House is "The place to get married" a special mention must go out to Steven our master of ceremonies who went above & beyond on our big day.
Thank you so much

From the minute I drove up I was delighted! The welcome was warm and friendly. The rooms were well maintained and spotlessly clean. Every single member of staff was helpful, chatty and obviously well trained. A real find, I would recommend anyone to visit, Milton Hill House is a real gem!

Spent one night at Milton Hill House recently and am running out of superlatives to describe it. Felt totally relaxed by the end of a gym/swim/jacuzzi/sauna/steam-room session, followed up by hot-chocolate from one of the many complimentary coffee stations, and a good night's sleep in an extremely comfortable bed. Whole hotel very clean, with a wonderful relaxed feel about it. Milton Hill House doesn't feel like other hotels, but made us feel like welcome guests in a grand period home. Very interesting history - there has been a house on the site for over 1,000 years! (Do ask at the reception desk for their print-out which is fascinating.) Room and bathrooms very clean, grounds beautiful (snowdrops were out in carpetfuls, but we just missed the daffodils on the back lawn by a week or two). Wish we'd had longer there to explore the parkland. Will definitely return, God willing.

Room Tip: The "garden rooms" may look like a block of flats from the outside, but inside is VERY dif...

We stayed at Milton Hill for an 80th Birthday weekend and the staff could not have been more helpful. The venue is delightful, even if the "Garden Rooms" look like a 70s block of flats. Food for the formal sessions was cooked to a high quality and served efficiently. We needed a more informal room for the Saturday evening, this was provided at no extra charge, laid out to our requirements and a staff member was on hand to help us with all arrangements. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel (and the group).

Room Tip: Give yourself time to wander round the grounds, they are beautiful in Spring

So disappointed with our stay! Have left more tired than when we arrived! Spa and room were lovely, but being woken by cleaners having a chat and laughing outside our door both mornings, when we asked them politely to keep the noise down we were just given a look, no response, i understand they have a job to do bit giggling like little girls outside our door surely isn't part of their job, they then turned the vacuum on most probably to annoy us? Normally choose premier inn so disappointed we didn't as at least then we would have had a good nights sleep guaranteed. Door leading from corridor (right outside out our room) made a loud bang every time it closed, which was constant! Overall really disappointed!
