We had a 3 night stay at the cottage. The owner met us and showed us around on our arrival. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard. It was also spotlessly clean. It is close to shops, hotels and there is plenty to do there.

Liked best: The high standard of decoration, cleanliness and personal attention.
Liked least: There was nothing we didnt like about the cottage.

“Magical Perfection”

We stayed at OGC a few years ago for Christmas & New Year, I meant to write a review then but forgot. Having read the negative one it prompted me to defend OCG, as I can truly say it's the best we've stayed at & there have been a lot over the years. When we arrived Alan & Morag were there to greet us, candles were lit in the widow & around the lounge plus a gorgeously decorated Christmas tree (later we found smaller ones in the bedrooms, magical). Fresh coffee was brewing, banana bread straight out the oven & a lovely hamper of all sorts of goodies plus a Christmas card for us, we felt more like family. The cottage has been fitted out & decorated to an extremely high standard, it screams quality by the bucket, from the wooden floor, leather couches, bathroom tiles, towels, bed linen, coffee maker down to the little thing on the kitchen wall to put the plastic bags. The log burner in the lounge was great & OCG was the only place we've stayed that provided a whole shed full of logs, not the usual 1st bag. The small courtyard garden is perfect & yet again the table, chairs & umbrella are good quality. At night small lights twinkle in the shrubbery, lovely touch. The comment made about steep stairs was unfair as everybody knows that old cottages come with steep stairs & if I could get up & down them following 2 pelvic operations I'm pretty sure most people would have no difficuly & as for the bedroom door it posed no problems at all. The cottage is placed in a perfect situation to access everywhere in Alyth easily, as of yet we've not returned but we most certainly will. I could on forever about our favourite cottage but I have to check on my banana bread, Morag kindly gave me the recipe & ever since we came home & I started making it, it's been hugely popular with all friends & family thanks so much Morag X

“Perthshire's Hidden Gem”
Reviewed September 11, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

I stayed here with my Mum and Dad on the run up to my wedding at the end of August and I must say, this wee cottage is a true hidden gem. Alan met me on the Monday to give me the lowdown, a quick tour and the keys. A really friendly guy with a fab sense of humour and clearly proud of this lovely abode.

When I first walked up to it I was a little worried it'd be slightly too small. After all, I had a wedding dress, a bridesmaid and two parents to fit in it, but all fears were quelled when I saw the homely living room complete with log burner and a massive TV as well as the gorgeous kitchen that was kitted out with everything you could possibly want, including baking tins (if you would be so inclined!). Alan and Morag had even prepared a fresh Banana Loaf for our arrival (which was AWESOME!) and put together a delicious welcome basket filled with lots of tasty goodies. A thoroughly nice touch indeed.

The entire cottage is beautifully decorated and has a real home away from home vibe. The beds were immensely comfortable and the bathroom boasted a huge bath, top notch shower and underfloor heating - a definite bonus as the Bonnie land is known for its temperamental weather ;-)

If there was to be a downside, it would have to be the eaves upstairs, but to be fair, they aren't exactly deal breakers.

All in all, this cottage is a wonderful place if you want to get away from it all for a while. Alyth itself has your essential local amenities and Perth is only a 30 minute drive away if you fancy it.

“Shocked at the comment below!!!”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We are only day 2 in the cottage and am alarmed at the comment below! This COTTAGE is five star every where you look you find another thing to make your stay comfortable. All products are of high quality and beautifully clean and well kept. Yes the stairs are steep as they would of been 200 years ago but remember a 92 year old lady managed these stairs prior to the current owners! I was concerned by the readings of the last 2 comments of the second bedroom but this is not a problem -beautiful banana bread waiting for us and coffee on! I don't think that there is a single thing I could think of that I would want. We are very comfortable and the village is very friendly and pub and shops 2 min away.

“Mixed pleasures in Olive Grove Cottage”
Reviewed August 7, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The cottage was friendly and reasonably clean. A perfect place to make trips to the mountains or the sea. Alyth has everything you need. Downsides: the cottage is dark and packed full of heavy furniture and things with hearts. The door of the twin bedroom doesn't fully open, you have to crawl in or out. The only toilet is downstairs, down a steep flight of stairs. We only got one bathtowel and one handtowel for an entire week, so we had to do a couple of laundries. Still, we enjoyed our stay, the beds were really good, the kitchen is well fitted. There is a giant TV and a woodburning stove. But trying to get out of the bedroom without bruising yourself a couple of times a night and climbing those stairs to use the bathroom... not again for us!

Liked best: The location was ideal for trips and the good beds
Liked least: the cramped bedroom, the meagre towels, the downstairs toilet. The picture of the twin bedroom is taken from a very special angle, so you don't see the door!

Management Response
Aug 8, 2013
Our cottage is spotlessly clean. All the cleaning is done by ourselves and we have very high standards. We also meet and greet all our guestes and show them round the cottage and explain everything before we leave. The cottage is not dark as it faces south, so has the sun all day. The decor is light with solid light oak furniture, I'm sorry if that is not to everyone's taste, but we do have more than ample pictures of every room at different angles on the website, so you can see exactly what everthing looks like before you stay.
As the cottage is nearly 200 years old, yes the stairs are steeper than modern day houses, and the walls are squint, hence the twin bedroom door does not open fully, but you certainly do not have to crawl in.
A full set of towels( bath/hand/facecloth) are provided for each guest, which is the standard that is normally given for up to a week's stay, if more are requested, they certainly can be provided, as we are more than happy to accommodate all our guests.

“Excellent comfortable cottage”
Reviewed June 6, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We had a wonderful time at Olive Grove last week. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this is by far the best. It is most comfortable and well equipped. The owners are really friendly and do seem to have thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable. We were reluctant to leave on Saturday and wished we could have stayed on for another week. We will certainly keep the details handy for future reference and will not hesitate to recommend you
