We booked into Maqueda last week for only one night. It was the best night ever! Personal service, amazing hosting by Etienne, 5-Star cuisine all done by Etienne!

Etienne became a close friend in a couple of hours, we really felt like very special friends. My friend and I got engaged, with the help of Etienne somewhere in the bush at Maqueda.(it was a total surprise to me, of course!) He and the other guests celebrated this wonderful time with us. The food and entertainment (Etienne's amazing singing) made it an unforgetable experience for life.
Thanks Etienne, hope we can stay in touch! We will be back, for sure!
Really a precious jewel hidden perfectly to stay special to those who are lucky enough to know about it!

This place is amazing - if that is what you like. Some people will turn up expecting air conditioning, TVs etc and then will be disappointed. Not us!

We had 3 nights here and definitely want to go back some time. This is a Lodge in the middle of a park with wild animals (not big cats, but did see a genet) wondering around. It is the other side of the river from the Kruger, and you can sit and watch to see the animals come down to drink.

The actual lodge is fantastic, even more so because of the hospitality from Francois and his parents. There are a couple of restaurants on the park, but we stayed and ate here all 3 nights, and the food was always first class. The best part was the fact the guests all sit at one table and talk to each other, joined by Francois, really making it fun.

Thank you for a fantactic 3 days

We have done a lot of research through internet for our honeymoon stay in south africa, kruger park. We have spoken to local experts and also tripadvisor as usual to get more information on our most important stay. I have done my reservation in april for our september stay. I was surprised to see their prompt answers to my e-mails as well as their helpful suggestions. When we arrived there as the last leg of our 4 destination honeymoon, we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome at the airport. Then we were taken to the lodge which is the ultimate paradise with two splash pools and constant wild life visits. We were always provided with more than what we ask for and we never felt hesitant to convey our requests. Our game drives were always full of surprises and everything was arranged beautifully before our arrival. Francois always took the time to show us around for shopping or game drives and he was always entertaining and pleasant to be around during dinner time. Dinner time itself was always a festivity with three course meals(Fabien should get Michelin stars right here right now). I never thought being in the wild could be this luxurious and also warm. Place was spotlessly clean and our room was made up twice a day. They even put tea candles all around the bath tub for some spark of the romance. Breakfast and dinner was always served as we wanted, on time and tasteful. We could not be happier in any place else and we can suggest this place, lovely people's home, to everyone. You will not feel like a customer, it is much more feeling like paying a visit to your cousin.

Room Tip: Honeymoon room has a cute bathtub

My husband and two children aged eighteen and twenty had stayed at Maqueda Lodge last month for three nights to celebrate his sixtieth birthday. It would be very difficult to find a better place to celebrate and share such a memorable intimate experience anywhere!
From the moment we arrived, we experienced a sense a beauty, peace and quiet in its pristine surroundings. The public areas and private rooms were furnished in impeccable taste, each with its own unique character. Utterly, utterly charming!
And then there are the two brothers Francois and Etienne who exude warmth and hospitality we have found unmatched anywhere else in the world....and we are a family of frequent travellers!
They were out of their way to make us comfortable, right from allocating our rooms to the planning of the mouth watering dinner menus that Etienne whipped us with such enthusiasm. Dinner, every night, was an occasion to look forward to complete with exquisite table settings, candle bras etc....the food made us all drool, every bit of bit...from the entrees to the desserts...including my son who is a picky eater!
The birthday dinner included a delicious birthday cake lovingly prepared by their mom and a beautiful, moving song sung by Etienne, a really versatile and multi talented man....we will never forget it...
Francois was also most helpful right from the planning stages...we were not sure of getting our visas in time...he was very understanding and assured us that he would try his best to accommodate us on short notice; briefed us about the activities, roads etc and always replied promptly to emails.....that personal touch you will never find in large hotels!
If it wasn't for the huge distance...we live 9000 miles away, we would honestly go there for a short break every year to relive the experience!
They have other properties in Africa too, including at the beach and we have every intention of trying them out sometime.

Room Tip: If you like a tub bath with a more secluded location, choose the honeymoon suite because it is tucked away in a corner and also closer to the pool alcove
