The mining Museum in Cobalt is the place to start, then explore the area mines and go on a tour of an original mine or two! It's a great way to learn more about the town's heritage. If you're up north in Ontario hunting or fishing, at least visit. It's a neat place!

This small museum in the middle of Cobalt, Ontario is right across the street from the head frame of a former silver mine.silver mine. It houses a collection of displays primarily about the heyday of silver mining from the first decade of the twentieth century through the early post WW2 years including a rocks and minerals section and a huge silver nugget. A mining equipment display is outside and across the street near the head frame which houses the Cobalt historical society. The museum offers an underground tour of a formerly operating silver mine as well as a self guided automobile tour of a couple of dozen mine sites where old workings and other interesting ruins and geological sites. Also on display in the museum is a model of "Ragged Chutes" a fascinating natural source of compressed air which was piped around the the area to power many of the mines in the Cobalt camp. don't miss this if you are in the area.

this entire town is very worth while to check out, Lots of history and a ton of mine sites to explore. Ontario's most historic town and Canada's silver capital. Only thing is there is only one motel and i would not even rate it a one star, there is one bar in town that is a nice little pub or there is the legion, there is only two corner stores in town.
