“wonderful garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

popped into the Lord Nelson twice in one day, during a long cycle ride. what a great atmospheric boozer. It seems very old and you could imagine the Lord himself sitting at the bar. They do interesting rums too. The best bit about the pub was the enormous garden at the back. Beautiful with trees to sit under and a play area for children. Lovely place.

“Really nice place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

This wasn't the first time I've been here. The Nelson is always very welcoming and the staff are friendly. The menu wasn't anything special but I was able to find several things I liked. However the one night that I fancy Lasagna they said they were out of it! The service was very good and the food was delicious. The atmosphere is always lovely in there and we could hear some live music coming from another room which gave it a homely feel! I recommend this restaurant.

“Better than its reputation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Maybe a couple of years since my last visit - and much better than I remembered or expected. On a sunny Saturday evening and not booked, the food was good, the service good and the bill very reasonable. The warm goat's cheese starter was excellent and generous, the steak from Graves cooked just as asked for, good chips and a great sticky toffee pudding. The Wherry seemed well kept and the Pinot Noir was good for the price. So clearly any misgivings are misplaced.

“Loads of character”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

Called in for a quick drink whilst following Nelson Trail around village where he was born. The pub is located opposite the cricket pitch in a wonderful village setting, it looks charming from the outside (built 1799) and oozes character on the inside with old fittings to match the old quirky rooms - even a seperate "snug". As well as the pub and dining rooms, stuffed with innumerable memorabilia of Nelson, it also has an enormous rear garden. The local beer is 'Wherry' which was pretty good. This pub is for someone who wants to go somewhere a bit different - definitely not a plastic pub!!!

“Many visits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

My most recent visit was made without a booking on a Thursday night, expecting it would be quiet, I was surprised,, it was very busy, having to wait a short while for a table in my favorite room to eat.
There is plenty of historical information to look at whilst waiting.
This was probably about my 10th visit and I love the place, great character at the historical pub and the staff are so welcoming.

The food arrived quickly and was well prepared and in good portion sizes.

I really hope that this place does not change, it is just a great old genuine pub that serves great food with very good staff.
