Very well priced, lovely bar staff and good hospitality, nice town and great townsfolk

Room Tip: Mine was next to the outside area, very quite all night even though there was late night closing. I would stay there again!

Some old outhouses (stables?) at this old inn have been converted to basic but comfortable, homely rooms. The pub has an interesting past, and one of only two steelyard wagon weighing machines in England. There is a pleasant berr garden just outside the door, well-patronised by a well-behaved crowd well into the night at the weekends.
Soham isn't your normal tourist destination, but it is handily between Cambridge, the cathedral city of Ely and the racing town of Newmarket, and only a couple of miles from Wicken Fen - the only piece of original fen left, and a twitcher's paradise.
The fine 12th century parish church is just across the street from the pub, and there are pleasant walks by the little river and through the commons.
Soham lies at the cusp of the Fens and the cute cottages of Suffolk. Hereward the Wake, Oliver Cromwell, St Edmund and John Constable all beckon.

Room Tip: Avoid weekends if you don't like beery crowds just outside your room.

We found the rooms lovely was disappointed it was not Bed and Breakfast but the Chatterbox Cafe over the road was excellent so we would stay here again, we were made very welcome.
We travelled from Manchester for our Nieces Christening which was held in the conservatory we stayed 2 nights Saturday and Sunday no complaints.

After a long and tiring journey to this B&B I was looking forward to a good nights sleep, unfortunately the pub that is attached to the B&B has a 4am license. Although I was informed of this at the time of booking I did not expect it to be a problem, unfortunately the outdoor smoker's area was right outside the bedroom door. Music was being played loudly until 4am with people laughing and talking. After closing time there was yet more noise from the cleaners, who sat outside our accommodation until 5.47am talking loudly, so loudly infact that another guest had to go outside and tell them in no uncertain terms to shut up. We spoke to this couple in the morning and they told us that they had to leave the bedroom window open all night because the room had just been repainted and the smell was making them feel ill. Our window was on the road side, but as it wasn't double glazed there was a lot of road noise. We also had to pay the cleaner in the morning for our room because the owners were still in bed.
It was a shame really because the room was very clean and had been recently redecorated and the breakfast that we had on our first morning there was excellent, but as it wasn't being served until 10.30am we decided on our second morning to have breakfast elsewhere.
I would not stay here again, but as it was the only accommodation that I could get at the time in Soham I had no choice.
Maybe the owners could consider some sound proofing and double glazing for future visitors.

Although warning was given regarding noise, we do understand why this negative feedback has been given and always strive to improve.
Warnings are still given to guests when booking rooms but we have also changed our closing times to try to improve our guests stay; 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 2am on Friday and Saturday only. In addition to this, we now supply earplugs in each room and outside music is switched off every night at 11pm. Unfortunately the rooms are still not double glazed but hope to be able to afford to do this in the future.
The rooms have been refurbished again since this article was submitted and the largest improvements have been with the en-suite bathrooms which have been tiled from floor to ceiling and with all of the beds being fitted with a new matress, new matress topper and new linen. Wifi is also now available to improve on the services available.
Room rates have also been reduced to reflect changes to the current climate and extremely competitive rates are available for those wishing to stay for longer periods.
